How to Troubleshoot & Replace Frigidaire AP5736381 / 5304491941 Refrigerator Compressor Start Relay Kit

Fridge would Click, but compressor never came on, noticed clicking before it completely went, should have investigated better. Tested compressor with Ohms meter, 7 on one side, 9 on other, 16-17 on the top 2 pins, another article said 1+3= 4, guess my compressor is different because it works now. Part # AP5736381 (5304491941) Only issue is the wire hold down strap doesn't fit, old one doesn't fit this unit either. Good news is I didn't have to splice any wires, the old plug connected right up to my new compressor start switch. 

Overload protector and capacitor kit replaced myself and bam!!!! The compressor started up like a beauty. Thanks Appliance Parts Pros for the video guidance and availability of the part. 

I watched some videos & was easily able to locate the problem. Simply broken relay. I was able to locate, inspect & come to the conclusion based on the video. The relay showed definite wear. No tools or meter needed. I was able to identify & order the part with extreme ease. The part arrived the following day as promised. Rewatched the video & installed the relay in under ten minutes. Talk about AMAZING.....

I purchased a new starter relay and is working so far. First day it did the humming noise once but haven't heard it since. 

The repair was extremity simple.Took less than 10 minutes. The compressor is now working but the refrigerator is still not cooling enough to freeze ice. 

I ordered the kit for the starting relay, capacitor and connectors. Parts and shipping were $75. I used the savings from not having a service call to buy myself a heat gun for the heat shrink. I am still way ahead. The video was 100% spot on. There were no surprises. 

I removed old start relay which was making rattling sound when I took it off and shook it and it smelled of an electrical fire. After cracking open old relay verified it had melted after 16 years of faithful service. Oh well that happens! My original connector plug worked with new start relay so I did not have to strip wires so that saved most of the work. Hardest part was working old part out and new part in through tight space. Saved a lot not having to buy a whole new refrig so I am grateful. Worst part was having to replace my food which had spoiled. Part took about 30 hours to arrive from ordering to delivery, used that as opportunity to clean inside shelves off and brush off and vacuum dust on coils underneath.
