The Compressor Start Kit is an OEM part for Frigidaire refrigerators. It is responsible for providing a reliable start-up for the compressor. It includes the necessary components to assist in initiating the compressor's motor, allowing it to run efficiently.

A bad compressor start kit can occur due to electrical issues, damage, or wear over time. If the start kit fails, it can lead to problems such as the compressor not starting, warm temperatures inside the refrigerator, or inconsistent cooling performance.

Symptoms of a bad compressor start kit include:

  • Compressor not starting or struggling to start.
  • Warm temperatures inside the refrigerator.
  • Inconsistent cooling or inadequate cooling.
  • Unusual noises coming from the compressor.

If you're experiencing any of these issues, it's time to replace the compressor start kit with this genuine part. Restore the proper functioning and cooling performance of your refrigerator with a new compressor start kit. This OEM Frigidaire part can also be used on Electrolux, Frigidaire, Gibson, Kelvinator, Westinghouse, and Sears/Kenmore.

Questions & Answers

For Frigidaire Compressor Start Kit (Part Number: OEM17209152)

Hello Chris, and thank you for your question. An easy check to identify if the issue is in the refrigerator would be to switch it to a different outlet. If the refrigerator operates properly on a completely different outlet, something else is causing the GFCI to trip. If the issues continue, the refrigerator would need to be checked for any wires or parts that are grounding out.

Unplugged the fridge for a week when we plugged it in again it will not cool the freezer or the fridge, although the copper line from the compressor feels cold, and the compressor itself is warm after running. Had it plugged in overnight. The compressor usually makes a clicking noise but don't hear it now. Cleaned the coils and fan which were dusty. seems like a part of the freezer is trying to get cool, but not much. Could this be a thermostat or the start/run switch and capacitor?

Hi Julie, thanks for contacting AppliancePartsPros.com. If both the condenser fan and evaporator fan are running, the compressor should be running too. If it’s not, the issue could be the compressor itself, the start relay, or the capacitor. That said, FRT21KSA is an incomplete model number, so I can’t look up part numbers for those components just yet. I’d also check the frost pattern on the evaporator and make sure the evaporator fan motor is running. If the frost pattern’s weak, you’re likely looking at a sealed system problem—one that’ll need a licensed tech to tackle.

My fridge/freezer starts to run but clicks off after just a second or less. It does this over and over until it finally kicks on. As the problem gets worse, it stays on for 1-2 sec now and shuts down, maybe 10 times or more before it turns on for a normal run. I researched and think it is the start relay, or possibly capacitor. What do you think? Would the compressor start kit fix this problem? Everything in both fridge and freezer is at right temp, but it is clearly breaking.

Jen, you have either a bad compressor or a start relay that is not starting the compressor. The least expensive route is to replace the start kit, part number 5304491941. To check the compressor start and run windings, From C to S which is your start windings, about 3 ohms, from C to R, your run windings, about 1 ohm. When you check from S to R, it should equal the start and run windings together, about 4 ohms. The C terminal is always the point of the triangle. If your windings are good, replace the start device, if they do not check correctly, you will need to replace the compressor, it would require a licensed technician to perform the work.

Sylvia, The hard start kit may allow the unit to work better but would recommend checking the condenser fan that is working and that the condenser coils are clean. The hard start is designed for temporary use and will need to eventually get a new compressor or new unit depending on what you decide.

Frank, you may want to inspect the evaporator for a frost pattern. If there is not a frost pattern on the evaporator, then the issue is going to be with the sealed system. The compressor may be operating inefficiently, there may be a restriction, or there may be a freon leak in this case. For any of these situations, an HVAC certified technician would be required for repair. If there is a lot of frost build-up on the evaporator, there is a defrost issue. The defrost heater 5303918208 can be tested for resistance and should measure at 35 ohms. The defrost bi-metal thermostat 5303918202 should read continuity at 25°F. If both of these items pass testing in a frost buildup case, then the defrost timer 215846602 would be the issue.

Dave, The thermostat in the unit can be tested for continuity across the 2 terminals. If there is no continuity when warm the the thermostat will be faulty. Unfortunately we do not have a wiring diagram for this unit to advise contacts for the timer.
