Michael M Raymond , NH August 04, 2025 No agitation Our trusty GE washer became suddenly unreliable. The root cause was the splines of the plastic agitator stripping and becoming smooth. I replaced the auger and agitator assembly to fix it. Probably saved a couple hundred dollars otherwise spent on a service call and got the satisfaction of fixing it myself! Read More... Steve B Athens , TN March 14, 2024 Appliance: General Electric Washer GTW460ASJ9WW Clothes did not get clean. Noted that the agitator base was freely spinning and not connected to the tub. The agitator base spline was stripped out. I had GREAT DIFFICULTY in removing the agitator. I watched many YouTube videos of how simple it is to separate the two pieces. I could not separate the agitator from the base. I eventually used a hole saw and cut out the top center of the agitator. I could then use a socket wrench and extension with a 7/16 socket to remove the bolt that holds down the agitator base. The replacement then took 5 minutes and the washer cleans now. To separate the agitator from the base required a vice and a pipe wrench. I have no idea why it was so difficult to separate. Read More... William C Yellville , AR February 18, 2024 Appliance: Model GE GTW685BSL1WS Agitator not working. Replaced agitator. Removing the old agitator was a bit of a problem because the screwdriver hole trick was not working for me. The top half would not come off / turn loose. I ended up using strap wrenches to hold the bottom and top. It turned and came apart then. Putting in the new one was easy. After the bolt was installed it went right together just using hands. Works great now. Read More... Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 1-2 hours Tools: Screwdrivers, Socket Set
