The refrigerator started making clicking noises when it comes on. The noise is a loud click-click, pause, click-click, pause, and so on. It would go on any time from seconds to minutes before the fridge comes on eventually. It didn't happen every time, but progressively more often over the last three weeks. The noise was coming from the back on the left (as you face the back of the fridge) from the main board compartment. Within 10 minutes of googling I found this website and the solution. When we got the part, we were alarmed by the additional instructions for units with bottom freezers, which potentially required snipping wires at two places. We have a bottom freezer, but luckily not the model that required the additional wire cutting. The only way to find out is to look if it had the capacitor or the wire to which the instructions refer. That took a little more care because the drawings in the instructions don't necessarily tell you exactly where to locate the capacitor in the main compartment (not the mainboard compartment). After verifying twice we did not have the need to cut any wires, we swapped out the mainboard in about 15 minutes. Some of the plugs were tough to disconnect. It's been four days and no clicking.
