How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP7188100 / WR55X10942C Board Asm Main Control

Change main board control 

Residential refrigerator in my motorhome is not at floor level. Had to build platform to roll refrigerator on. It was so tight had to remove all three doors once I could access the back. It was an easy repair to replace the motherboard and capacitor. Didn’t think the capacitor was a problem, but I had access to it so I changed it out anyway simple to change hard to get to ! 

Ordered control board and evaporator fan. Replaced and good to go. 

Replaced the thermistor WR55X10025. But also changed the main board, the heater and the temperature safety, all the AC parts, which wasn't the problem, but the 12V 15 A relay on the old main board was the first problem, and I replaced it. The symptom was if you enter diags and go to 1,4 the defrost would start, and draw 5.5 amps for only a few minutes. In fact every 6 minutes it would cycle off. That was the thermistor lying to the computer! 

Replaced the main control board after determining that the output voltage to the display control board was fluctuating and well below the required 12 to14 volts requirement. Note that this was the second time the refrigerator had failed to start after a flash power outage. In the first instance it started after a day when the "Lock" button was pressed. (Did not respond before that to attempts to start the frig) This time it was out and would not restart for 4 days before starting on its own. When the output voltage to the control board was checked it indicated a correct 13.56v. This occurred just an hour or two before I replaced the main pcb. This was a good indication that there is a failing/unstable part on the old pcb. I marked "Challenging" as a 2 only because I had to get behind the frig. Pcb replacement took about 10 minutes in total only because the pcb retaining pin is in a tight location (be careful not to break it) and I had to reposition the ground wire as shown in the video installation instructions. 

Replaced the Main Control Board. 

I found an older GE Technical Service Guide (pub #31-9071) on the internet that was very helpful. It was not for my specific model but close enough. That along with the Technical Data Sheet/ wiring diagram that came with the refrigerator provided enough information to diagnose a bad motherboard with low DC voltage output. A new motherboard was installed and everything worked as it should. 

Turns out, the front panel click was coming from a small speaker. Went to the rear where the main board is put a screwdriver up to my ear and could detect a faint click from one of the relays? (open, copper wound) Pulled the relay for compressor but the board still clicked. Took a gamble with a new board and that fixed it, APPros was able to source the part locally and got it to me in a day (not counting Sun. when this happened) Thank you! 

I used the chat room you provided talked to a technician then ordered the Main Control Board. It came the next day which was quite fast. Took about 15 minutes to install and the unit runs like new. Awesome job Pros!
