How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP2031021 / WB44X173 Oven Broil Element

Bought replacement and a simple change out and we were back in business. 

Replaced the broil element with this new part. This is the first time I’ve replaced the broil element but have replaced the bake element twice now. The oven is built into a cabinet and is an odd size so really appreciate being able to replace failed parts to keep this thing going since it will be a full blown kitchen remodel when that day comes. I did pay extra for expedited shipping since we eat a lot of nachos and can’t make them without the the broiler element. 

40 years old decided I should probably replace both. 

Had to have my brother help. The new element fit but was difficult to install. I believe this was because my oven was older and therefore a model generation not described in the installation tips. I was able to wrap twist ties around the wires coming thru the back of the oven (so they didn't fall back thru which would have necessitated pulling out the appliance) but removing the existing screws from the 2 sets of wires was impossible. I don't know how my brother was able to do it. Once installed the element works just fine.

I was considering buying a new oven when the troubleshooter guide indicated it was just the elements. I'm so glad I found this site! The elements arrived in about 4 days, and after a 10 minute removal/install, my oven works like new. Easy easy easy! $40 versus $1000. THANK YOU! 

It was an easy fix. A few screws that's all. Be carefull of the to wire screws, put a sandwich tie on them, so you don't loose them. Good Luck!
