How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP4567124 / WH12X10462 Capacitor

I was reading reviews and read one review that described the exact problem I had and part of the symptom was after removing the capacitor, they found gray stuff oozing out of a crack in the capacitor. I noticed the top of my capacitor swollen and then found the gray stuff oozing out the back from a crack after I removed it. 

I replaced it and it solved the problem. Youtube videos made all the difference. Thanks 

Opened up the washer to see where the smoke was coming from. The culprit was a black cylinder with 2 wires running to it. After enough googling I figured out it was a capacitor for the motor. I originally thought the motor or clutch was burnt up but after looking at the videos and reviews on your website. I figured it was probably only the capacitor gone bad. I ordered a new capacitor and put it on. Which took about 5 minutes and my washer is back up and running. I didn't have to buy a new one. Followed the steps and right away discovered it was the capacitor...some gray foam gook was leaking and covering the outside of the capacitor! Easily located the correct part and ordered it from APP. I replaced capacitor and belt with instructions from your site. 

Washer had no agitation or spin. Watched a variety of You Tube on the subject for GE washers. There are several fixes that can have your washer fall in this condition depending on the model and year of the washer. I put to memory all the fixes I saw on YouTube and put them into memory. When I opened the washer there it was. A capacitor that was leaking. I looked it up and ordered a new one, replaced it in minutes and it work the first time. Save me a bundle in getting a new unit or getting a repairman. The hardest part of all of this was finding the various solutions to the problem. I was lucky as the fix was about the easiest of all the solutions. 

Ordered part Friday before Memorial Day weekend. Received it Wednesday two days after Monday holiday. Had machine running that day. Saved my life. My wife was ticked off and wanted new machine because she didn’t want to wait to wash clothes. The part cost only $40 and machine running fine.
