How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP2616850 / WD26X10013 Complete Ge Pump And Motor Assembly

Replaced entire component 

I came on Appliance Parts Pros & chatted with rep & he gave me a snap diagnosis & suggested the part. The part was the Pump Motor Assembly so I ordered it & within a few days I received it via Fedex. 

1. Replaced the Dishwasher motor and pump assembly. 2. Replaced the lower arm sprayer. 3. Replaced the Sump and filter. Replaced both the inlet and outlet hoses. 4. Replaced the Airgap. 5. Replaced Float Dome. 6. Replaced Water Inlet Valve. Parts $220 for Dishwasher Estimated Labor $400.00 Labor $0.00 Parts $100.00 for Pullout Faucet Estimated Labor $175.00 Labor $0.00 

Repair parts arrived super fast. Installed the new parts according to the supplied instructions. All went well. It took over 2 hours because the unit had to be removed after the water and power were disconnected and then the initial problem diagnosed (motor brushes worn beyond service limits). The removal of the spray bar tower assembly was a challenge until it was discovered that the tower unscrews in a CW direction from the bar that then allowed access to the attachment screw that holds that agitator bar to the base of the liner that leads to the motor/pump assembly. There was no instructional for that phase of the project probably due to the age of this appliance. After that things went fast. After reassembly and installation it was discovered that the drain hose was clogged which then necessitated appliance removal, hose cleaning and then re-installation. Appliance works fine now. 

Installed a new pump and motor assembly along with a new water inlet valve and 2 new corner baffles. My dishwasher works better now than it did when it was new. My advice to anyone with an older mechanical push button/dial operated machine would be to rebuild it. The new machines with electronic control boards are junk! You are lucky if you get 2 to 5 years out of them before they break down as the boards cannot withstand the moist heat they are surrounded by. I built my own computer and water cooled it to keep temperatures down on the chips, cards and boards so it will last, and the chip can even be over clocked. The manufacturers keep their costs down by installing very similar electronic boards that cannot take the heat very long and will break down long before the old style dishwashers do. So what better way to save money then ordering new parts from Appliance Parts Pros and repair your old machine that will last years to decades longer than the new junk dishwashers, GREAT JOB APPLIANCE PROS! Assumed that the pump was not putting out enough water--probably had a damaged impeller or some kind of stopage. Ordered a new pump. When I took out the old pump, I discovered that the drain solenoid was rusted and stuck in the drain position. This meant that the unit was trying to pump out the water during the entire cycle. To be safe, I went ahead and installed the new pump (which had a new drain solenoid). The only difficulty was after I had installed the unit back under the counter, I discovered a leak. Could not find where it was so I had to remove the unit and run it outside of the cabinet. Tuns out the leak was where the upper spray head inters the cabinet. Some RTV fixed the leak so I reinstalled the unit.Only been a day but it appears that the dishwasher works like new now. Only problem was my own fault--at 87 I am not able to move quite as well as in the past but my wife thinks I am some kind of hero now! 

I replaced the pump and motor assembly. I also proactively replaced the fill hose while I had the dishwasher out since it was decades old. GE now only sells a generic kit. There were about 7 different sets of directions for different groups of models, and myriad adapters and other parts to support all of them. I wish GE had provided a way of looking up which instructions to use based on model # as that would have saved me a lot of trouble sorting out the instructions, but I didn't find one. But it all worked out in the end and was well worth the effort since they don't seem to make dishwashers like they used to. AppliancePartsPros service was outstanding - I ordered the parts in the morning and received the shipping notice and tracking number by lunch! 

Pull dishwasher forward, no need to remove completely. Remove three hose clamps, one screw, and three electrical connections (one ground screwed onto motor, two plugs) and remove old pump assembly. Installation is reverse. It took 30 minutes. Be aware that a pint-or-so of water in the pump will spill out when you disconnect, so be ready to catch it. 

Removed and replaced 

Ordered a complete GE Pump and Motor Assembly. This solved the problem. The only issues I came across were the posts on the motor to connect the ground wire and the hanger using the threaded screws in the kit. The posts were not threaded, which I reported to Appliance Parts Pros. I used a tap matching the screws to thread the posts. This solved the problem. I also replaced the copper tubing for the water with a braided ss hose. The only leak that occurred was in the drain gasket (item #505 in the drawing). It was removed and cleaned thoroughly for a better seal, once this was done there were no further leaks. All is good so far.
