How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP6031743 / WB18X23942 Harness Wire Switch

Once I removed all the burners, I could remove the stainless steel cover to access the transformer and switch harness. I had ordered a transformer, switch harness, and LED harness in case I needed all 3. I first replaced the switch harness. Unfortunately, there were no signs of current. I next replaced the transformer and my cooktop was alive again. In my case, I did not need to replace the LED harness. 

Replaced the wire harness that includes the 5 switches on the gas valves. Note that the old switches were rated at 125 volts, while the voltage is actually stepped up to 240. So the switches were destined to fail due to improper design or manufacture. The new switches are labeled for 250 volts, hopefully they are designed for it. 

I replaced the transformer. Did not fix the problem and the new transformer overheated and failed as well. Your support person suggested the ignition module is bad. I bought a new igniter box and you replaced the transformer. The transformer got hot with only the harness connected. I found a short in one of the switches. I bought the harness, connected everything and it worked 

After water spilled on the cooktop and leaked into the knobs, both the LED lights and spark ignition stopped working. After a little research, I determined the likely cause was a short in the switch which blew the transformer. I ordered both the switch harness and transformer (super-fast next day delivery at the standard rate!). The replacement was easy. I was a little nervous because the replacement switches are different from the original, but they all fit perfectly. The stovetop is working again - even better actually because I took the opportunity to clean all the burners and gas jets. Thanks!

I started with replacing the spark igniter module, that did not correct the problem. I then found that the transformer was bad and replaced that, still no spark to ignite the stove. I then wrote Appliance Pros technicians about the problem. They felt it was a bad relay in the Harness with LED assembly. I ordered that part, along with a new Harness switch assembly. I did that because the stove was over 10 years old, and I had now just about rebuilt the inner's of the stove. Upon installation of the two new parts, I finally was able to ignite the stove. I believe the problem started to occur after a very violent thunderstorm with lightning in our area. Anyway problem was fixed, should not have anymore problems for another 10 years.!!! 

Found the part on your site as well as instructions on how to change it. Ordered the wiring harness on Friday, got the harness the next day, OUTSTANDING SERVICE, changed the harness and the stove top has been working fine. You had the best price and the video made the job easy. The repair was easy as long as you have the proper tools, torques driver and 1/4" socket and cross point screw driver. 

Removed and replaced transformer and harness wire switches. First,(after unplugging cooktop) removed and cleaned all dripless burners. Then, removed and cleaned cooktop surface and insulating material. Swapped out old transformer and wiring harness with new parts. Reassembled everything. Plugged cooktop back in. Fired it up! Needed to use the right size Torx head to remove burners and a Hex head to remove screws securing transformer and wiring harness. 

I was able to replace the switch harness with the new one. It was fairly simple and straight forward. I usually take a photo of the scene before I start so I have a reminder as to where everything goes if I get distracted. Also gave me an opportunity to clean the stove parts. 

I checked the transformer and the spark module with an Ohm meter and then determined it was the harness wire switch. It should be noted that after I cleaned all of the igniters with rubbing alcohol and plugged the range back in, all five of the igniters began to spark and light the burners when gas was turned on but the igniters continued to spark with all of the burners turned off. This told me my harness wire switch was not working properly. I took apart the range until I could unplug the old harness wire switch and install the new harness wire switch. I took photos of the old one so I had something to look at while installing the new harness wire switch. I simply put everything back together and it worked fine. Just make sure the range is unplugged and the gas is off during the work.
