How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP6988477 / WB21X36771 Range Infinite Heat Switch Kit

I pulled the stove out, unplugged it, took the panel off with a screwdriver, then took the knob off the front of the stove for the my 8 inch front burner. put the new switch back in (the switch looked a little different than my old one, but was labeled) we placed the wires back on the new switch based on the codes on the switch. Then placed everything back like it was. 

We ordered a new part (was te right one) it was replaced with no problem. 

Ordered and installed the Infinite Heat Switch Kit. The replacement part itself is OK, but the (old) knob doesn't fit snugly. 

Watched video on AppliancePartsPros.com, then tried to repeat the steps. Using the appliance model number, contacted APP.com technical service and once the part was identified, ordered it. Wrong part, but only after taking the cooktop out and apart. Called for technical assistance again. After discussion with an exceptionally customer friendly service tech, identified the new correct part, ordered it with the 2-day shipping. It arrived the next day. Proceeded to the replacement, but again it was a different wrong part. Called technical service again reaching a different service tech who was also exceptionally customer friendly. After some significant time researching the model, determined that the correct part was in a "kit" that could replace multiple infinite switch types. Again 2-day shipping that arrived the next day. Working with a friend, successfully replaced the part following the instructions in the kit and watching the techniques in the video. All works well. 

After having 2 different electricians look at the stovetop and speaking to a 3rd, all of which informed me that due to the age of the appliance, 30+ years, no replacement switches were made. So after a short search on the internet, I called the Appliance Parts Pros, spoke with I believe Rabecka, who informed me that GE themself did in fact make a replacement infinite switch for our appliance, They arrived 2days later, instructions were straight forward, this was not difficult to install. What really makes this great is that we were in the middle of selling the home. The new buyers liked the stovetop because the knobs are on the vent hood, and we were looking at replacing the stovetop, vent hood, rewiring, refitting cabinets. Thank You.... 

I watched one of the videos made by APP. Very informative and easy to follow. The entire experience was pleasant from purchasing the part to install. The parts person was Lisa and she was extremely helpful and patient. When we pulled the door panel off these little white spacers fell out. Extremely hard to figure out how they go back in the unit. The spacers have a strange shape so it seemed like they should be easy to figure out exactly where they go. Nope. Had to call the pros back at APP. They were great. The tech sent me a video and that solved my problem. I will definitely use APP again. Great company and great customer service. My door opens and closes perfectly now. It’s all good and life is wonderful. The actual install was only about 20 minutes. Spent more time hunting info on internet about spacer install. 

I installed the new switch, but the pilot light did not work on that switch. I reversed the leads on the L1 and L2 terminals of the new switch and everything worked fine. 

My son, he is an electrician. 

Ordered four new switches from AppliancePartsPros. I followed the online video which helped a lot. Although my switch had individual wire terminals, not a wiring harness, I was able to swap out all for switches OK. 

Took less than an hour to replace the two burner controls . Range worked properly after repair.
