How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP3728341 / WD18X10026 Dishwasher Sump Assembly

Replaced both sump and impeller seal kit. The impeller seal kit was different than the one in GE dishwasher so we reused the screen from the original set up. Instructions were very helpful but there were some modest differences. We were aghast to see a whitish buildup in both the sump and it’s connections. After looking online noted many people were advised it is residue from dishwasher soap which doesn’t contain phosphates. Non-the less, dishwasher is not leaking from the motor any longer. Now it is leaking from the door. I guess it’s time to change the door gasket. 

Drained dishwasher. Unplugged it, disconnected water supply. After laying it on its side checked pump. It seemed to work as impeller was spinning after I took it apart and reconnected it to power. Decided to replace sump as it was deteriorated as well as flapper valve and check valve and hose assembly. Ordered all as well as drain pump. People at Appliance Parts Pro’s were very helpful. Replaced the first three. Still wouldn’t drain. Checked outlet hose. Clear. Replaced drain pump. Still wouldn’t drain. Saw a brass fitting near sink drain at end of drain hose. Disconnected it and lo and behold it had a flapper (check) valve in it that was stuck. Replaced. All is well. Had no idea someone had installed extra valve. Apparently it is fairly standard, but I’m just a DIYer. Wasted a lot of time but did make some necessary part replacements. I am stuck with the pump though as it is not returnable after being installed. It comes with a flapper valve already so have an extra one. May try to send the flapper valve back. 

I suspected a tub seal leak and after reviewing the "exploded" view drawings I suspected a leak near the drain sump. I watched the excellent repair videos and removed the sump which was started to disintegrate. Ordered parts on Friday night, received them on Tuesday. Replaced parts and checked for leaks. DON'T forget to reconnect the drain hose to the drain trap. Lol (I wasn't laughing at the time). Really easy job. Try to use exact tools if you have them. Will have nut drivers the next time. 

I purchased a new replacement sump and I installed it in about 30 minutes. 

3 minute tutorial was great. The repair took 5 hours to repair and clean all the parts connected to the inlet sump, which explains why professional repair would have been so expensive. It's amazing how much crud collects in these parts of the dishwasher that you don't see until you take it apart. It's like a new dishwasher now. Suggestion: always order 2 or 3 Hub Nuts. I broke the tabs on the new one when I first tried to attach it. Ordered 2 more in case it happened again. Kudos to AppliancePartsPros for the excellent 1-day delivery and your informative web-site. I couldn't have done it without you. 

The dishwasher had progressively gotten worse at cleaning the dishes, especially stuff on the top rack. I tried cleaning the filters thoroughly, but it didn't help very much. While cleaning the filters I noticed that the tube sticking up from the inlet sump was very deteriorated and crumbling. The entire inlet sump felt weirdly sticky and degraded, so I decided the replace it. The part arrived very quickly from AppliancePartsPros.com. The hardest part of the repair was getting the dishwasher out. Previous homeowners had put ceramic tile in and the dishwasher was trapped below the lip of the tile. I ended using a car jack and 2X4 to raise the countertop up a couple inches and after a mighty struggle was able to get it out. The actual repair went very quickly and smoothly. The video really helped! Since I've put it back in, it's cleaning much better, but is also running a lot louder with a loud buzzing vibrating noise while the wash cycle is active. I'm not sure if I did something while getting it out, or maybe over-tightened one of the clamps? I'm probably going to leave well enough alone for now. Also, in a separate issue, our gas drier stopped heating. Replacing the valve coil kit fixed the issue and was a much easier job. 

The first step was to watch the very informative Appliance Parts Pros video. I then ordered the part. The short delivery time was appreciated. I then replaced the part. All went well. 

Replaced the inlet sump, sump filter cover and fine filter hub nut. The videos help tremendously on how to replace the parts. 

I ordered the 4 assemblies that had rubber or plastic parts in the drainage system. After reviewing, pulling out the dishwasher and looking at the underside. While reviewing the videos for each assembly. I narrowed down the list to the 4 I felt were worn out or broken. 

Ordered 4 parts and followed the videos. Worked well. Delivery was quick.
