How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP7220294 / WR02X45206 Refrigerator Water Filter Head And Tube Assembly

Replaced water filter housing. Used the video provided on the website which was very specific to my replacement. As a result of the video I decided to do the job myself and canceled the appliance repair. The repair was exactly as shown and accomplished easily. 

Turned off water to refrigerator and unplugged electrical. Removed assembly that holds water filter. Removed rear cover at base of refrigerator. Unhooked two water lines going to water filter assembly. Removed old assembly. Installed new assembly. Reattached two water lines. Vacuumed out base of refrigerator, reinstalled rear cover. Plugged in electrical and turned water on. All done. Works great. Quiet once again! 

Watched videos on You Tube first. All said to replace the water valve. Replaced the water valve. Worked for about 1 glass of water, and quit again. Figured the filter had gone bad, put in another one. That didn't work either, switched back and forth between filters, started to work. Figured it was OK. Nope,,,, worked for about a month and then quit again. Went to Lowes, bought a genuine GE filter at an obscene price. Installed that. Started working, figured OK now. Nope, lasted about a month again. So, checked with APP for an suggestions. They indicated the water manifold had stopped up. So I ordered one, installed, now working again. It was an easy install, also installed a ball stop valve on the water line so I wouldn't have to go all the way down stairs if it quit again. 

Researched the symptoms and found that my MWF manifold valve was the issue. Bought the part here at Appliancepartspros.com. Took about 40-50 minutes to replace the part. Upon inspecting the old part, I could see the valve was worn down. 

I replaced the mwf water filter line

I followed the How-To video provided by AppliancePartsPros, which described the process perfectly. Foam insulation around the water lines needed a bit of adjustment to get through the refrigeration body, but not a big deal. Overall, a very easy repair thanks to AppliancePartsPros. 

Through much internet research I was able to narrow down the problem to either the water inlet valve or the water filter housing/manifold. Because the filter housing hoses feed into the inlet valve, we decided to replace both at the same time instead of troubleshooting just one and then having to pull it all apart a second time if we guessed wrong. The videos provided on your website were extremely helpful, thank you! Obviously since the door is open when making the housing repair, the temperature went from 37 to 43 degrees. An hour after everything was back up and running it had only dropped 1 degree, but after 6 hours it was back to normal...so be patient. 

I googled the noise that my refrigerator would make when I dispensed water, found that same topic on your blog, and saw that it had a suggested part to replace. I then watched a video that you all had posted that showed that part being replaced, and although it wasn't the same model refrigerator, it had the same issue/the part replacement was the same. I looked up that part for my model refrigerator, ordered the part from you, and then changed it out. Now my refrigerator water/ice maker is working like a champ and I saved a ton of money on a simple fix. Thanks! 

Bought new filter housing, followed instruction video online on how to replace it. Just one shot, get it done, works like new.
