How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP2030997 / WB44T10011 Bake Element

When the element broke it was very scary. Electricity was arcing in the oven, and it was so bright that I couldn’t look directly at it. The buzz and crackling sound was nerve wracking, too. The first element I ordered was the wrong one, but before I returned it, I ordered the one I ACTUALLY needed; it arrived the very next day! Hallelujah! It was easy to install. Just remember to turn off the power to your stove (or unplug it!) I removed the oven door for easy access, which took only a few seconds. Oh, you want to have a couple of bulldog clips or clamps handy to put on the wires when you disconnect them the old element—or you will lose them behind the oven wall! All in all, a very easy fix. 

Pulled out old element and replaced with minimal fuss. Hardest part was making sure the wires didn't slip back into the insulation while I was working (and that wasn't difficult either). Overall, this was a straightforward and simple fix that saved me time, effort and a lot of money. 

I am 74...and not too strong, but this was done quickly . 

I pulled the stove out from the wall so I could reach and disconnect the power cord. Then I removed the oven racks and the back panel to make it easier to disconnect the element from the wiring, removed the two screws holding the element in place inside the oven, inserted the new element, attached the wiring cleaned the accumulation of spillage from the past 20 years, re-connected the power, replaced the racks and the back panel, re-connected the power, and moved the stove back into place. It was not really necessary to remove the back panel. 

I pulled the stove out from the wall and unplugged the appliance. I removed the element by loosening the 2 bolts to the back of stove, pulled the element out and unplugged the leads. Lost one in the panel so I removed 5 bolts on the back panel. Refed the lead back in the stove, attached the leads (a little hard for me, I am 5' 2" a real stretch for my arms) I replaced the back panel, plugged the stove in, slid it back and turned it on. Works wonderfully now. I will say when I ordered the piece, I got the wrong part(broiler element. I needed the baking element, they returned it and replaced it quickly. Great customer service! 

Exactly what video said. Unplug oven, use a wrench with proper nut size. Loosen 2 bolts on back bottom of oven. Pull off electrical metal caps on wires. Be sure to pull out far or it will go back in housing. Take out old element. Put in new one. Connect wire tabs. Push back in housing. Tighten bolts and then plug back in. 

I replaced the bottom heating element. This is called the Bake element as well simple repair. Unplug stove from the wall plug. Remove top and bottom racks that are inside the stove. They just slide out of the stove. Remove the two screws that hold the heating element in place. Remove the wiring connector one at a time. They just slip off and on the new element. Reinstall the racks and plug in the power again. All set now. 

Purchased your heating element - it arrived in less than 40 hours. No papers but that's ok. A 76-year-old friend came and repaired it. We watched the video you have warning of the wires possibly retreating into the back of the stove. I thought of using a clothespin to hold each wire so they wouldn't slip back into the insulation. Good to do as even the clothespins were pulled into the insulation. It was hard to pull the old wires apart - a friend had to use a pair of pliers to hold old wire - not sure maybe the new too. It was done in about 20 minutes. And I love the saying on your cardboard box as an avid recycler - that the box still has a lot of life in it so recycle it!! Keep up the fantastic work!! J S. 

I watched the how-to video. Just two screws and two clips. Remove, replace, and done. Works perfectly. 

Replaced the bottom heating element with new one. Removed the two nuts (inside the stove) and removed the wiring connection from the old heating element. It was hard to replace the wiring clamp (inside the stove) onto the new heating element connections. I then removed the back panel (6 or 8 screws) and noticed it was easy to install the wiring connection to the new heating element from the back of the stove.
