How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP2014008 / WB2X9154 Gas Range Oven Igniter

Found your website after determining the igniter had failed. Was pleasantly surprised when part arrived within 24 hours My brother installed it and thought the instruction were vague, but he's often impatient. I'm so glad to have it fixed and to have your company as a resource in the future. 

After research showed that the fix was more than likely a bad oven igniter, I replaced the oven igniter. All videos I watched showed it to be a simple repair that could be totally accessed inside the oven floor by removing the oven floor cover (2 screws) and the burner diffuser (1 screw), which was true, except the two screws that mount the igniter could not be removed without removing the entire bottom of the oven floor because of the angle and lack of clearance of the 2 screws. Poor design. What should have taken 15-20 minutes actually took 1.5 hours by the time I finally figured out that the entire bottom of the oven had to be removed and how to do that. This stove is a fairly old GE XL44. 

Ordered new piece which was an exact match 

Replaced igniter 

I researched on the internet and got the answer. I got the model number, did an internet search, found the part, ordered it, came in about 3 days. I cut the old wire plugin off, tried soldering them together, they wouldn't solder, twisted the wires together, taped them, plugged them in, screwed the ignition part back on, turned the oven on, the ignition part glowed orange, and oven came on. 

I opened the oven door to check for the bright light of the glowing igniter and it was totally dark. I knew at that point the igniter had failed and I needed a new one. 

Bought ingnitor and installed it 

Replaced with new one 

Remove bottom heat displacer, unscrewed old ignitor, clipped existing wires, wire nutted new ignitor. I have a GE oven and it was difficult to fit a wrench into the small space to disconnect the old ignitor. 

Replaced oven igniter. Shut off gas to oven and unplugged. Removed oven racks then oven bottom (2 screws in back of oven inside). Removed warming drawer underneath oven, clips on rails one pushed down the other side pushed up. Removed 2 screws holding in burner bar back center from warming drawer compartment. Used a magnet so I didn't drop screws. Removed screw at front inside oven holding burner bar. Cut wires as close to old igniter as possible to give myself longest leads to attach to. Unscrewed igniter from bottom of burner bar. Attached new igniter to bar. Wire nutted to old leads and pushed back into oven warmer drawer compartment as I replaced burner bar. Reattached burner bar and then tested all parts of the oven before replacing oven inside bottom. Replaced oven inside bottom and has worked ever since.
