How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP5803561 / WB27X21609 Transformer

Once I removed all the burners, I could remove the stainless steel cover to access the transformer and switch harness. I had ordered a transformer, switch harness, and LED harness in case I needed all 3. I first replaced the switch harness. Unfortunately, there were no signs of current. I next replaced the transformer and my cooktop was alive again. In my case, I did not need to replace the LED harness. 

After water spilled on the cooktop and leaked into the knobs, both the LED lights and spark ignition stopped working. After a little research, I determined the likely cause was a short in the switch which blew the transformer. I ordered both the switch harness and transformer (super-fast next day delivery at the standard rate!). The replacement was easy. I was a little nervous because the replacement switches are different from the original, but they all fit perfectly. The stovetop is working again - even better actually because I took the opportunity to clean all the burners and gas jets. Thanks!

Removed and replaced transformer and harness wire switches. First,(after unplugging cooktop) removed and cleaned all dripless burners. Then, removed and cleaned cooktop surface and insulating material. Swapped out old transformer and wiring harness with new parts. Reassembled everything. Plugged cooktop back in. Fired it up! Needed to use the right size Torx head to remove burners and a Hex head to remove screws securing transformer and wiring harness.

I replaced the old parts with these 2 new parts. My stove works again. I like it. 

Turn gas off and unplug the unit Remove burner caps and burner covers. Remove two star screws at each burner that fasten the cooktop “pan” to the burner assembly. Lift pan slightly and disconnect spade connectors at each burner. Set pan aside. The burner switches snap (straight up) off of the gas valves and the harness unplugs. Important to note color of the switch wires and replace exactly as original OEM switch harness. Remove transformer ( unplug input spade connectors and unplug at harness connector. CAUTION Avoid touching the transformer!. Transformer has 3 screws. Simple R&R Replacing these two electrical components was a straightforward plug and play which took me about 30 minutes. Cleaning the upper burners after 15 years of cooking use took a good deal longer that replacing the switch harness and transformer Cooktop works and looks like new after reassembly. Repair cost $202 

Like many others, our stove stopped sparking after a spill. After using a lighter for months, finally got around to checking out all the wiring as per the repair manual and discovered that the transformer was shot so ordered a replacement plus a new spark module just to be safe. Replacing both restored functionality. The fix is pretty easy to do... 

While cleaning the cooktop a couple of drops of water fell into the control knob area. It shorted the Wire harness switch, which fried the transformer. I replaced both components as well as the Spark module just as a precaution. The cooktop works perfectly again. 

Replaced the module and the transformer. We lost three transformers before realizing the spark module was bad. The repair did not take long and was very easy to do.
