How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP3796479 / WR17X11843 Evaporator Drip Pan

Replaced drip pan. 

Years ago a repair person said they were not sure what the problem was and pretty much gave up. So we lived with sopping up water on our kitchen floor for years and considered buying a new refrigerator. Upon seeing the cost of a comparable unit I did a little internet searching. I came upon the Appliance Parts Pros website and within minutes had the solution. Once the part arrived I followed the video and the problem was repaired in about 10 minutes. The world is full of incompetence but it's not to be found at AppliancePartsPros.com. 

I first watched your video on how to replace the evaporated drip pan which was rusted through and whose rust clogged the drain tube. The directions were clear. I did have to blow out the drain tube before installing the new pan. I also replaced the evaporator assembly because I felt the old fan was not working properly. Your directions were also valuable with that repair. Although it took four months to get the fan assembly because it was on backorder, the job went well. Thank you. 

I was enjoying a great day in the backyard, lounging in the pool, and inhaling beers when my wife told me that there was a large puddle of water on the kitchen floor that looked like it was coming from the fridge. Out of the pool, fumble around removing drawers, shelves, etc. only to find that the supposed aluminum drip pan (which was actually pot metal that was powder-coated to look like aluminum) rusted through and water and rust had dripped and stained the inside of the fridge. Ordered the part here and received it in three days. Installed the new part - no issues and once again the beer is cold. 

Replaced with a new drain pan, I also checked all sensors and heaters. Checked suction pressure because someone put a clamp on valve on the suction side, I had to know if the pressure was right. I will replace the clamp on valve with a scharder. The GE Profile 25 is back on line. 

Ordered part from appliance parts pros. Watched video repair and replaced part 30 minutes at most. 

Replaced temperature sensor evaporator section, new drip pan and new evaporator unit. 

Unplug fridge. Remove refrigerator crisper drawers to access back panel vent. Remove the plastic tube casing on the right side. Remove 3 screws on the panel and carefully pull off-panel to the left and be careful not to damage the styrofoam casing underneath, particularly around the condenser fan. Disconnect the fan from the back Remove 2 top screws from drain trough and remove from behind the coils. Install the new drain trough. Reverse steps to put everything back. Confirm that the condenser fan is reconnected and working properly by pushing the door light button. The fan should kick on. 

Ordered a replacement trough and swapped it out with the rusted component. Since the previous trough rusted, I made sure to spray on a thorough coating of clear Rust-o-Leum before installing the new part. No sense in replacing this part again in a few years. Ran into some minor delays with frost having locked some components down. Had to blow dry until melted in order to remove those pieces. That delayed the work, but otherwise, it was easy work. 

Watched the video at AppliancePartsPros.com and followed it exactly. Took more time than I thought due to cleaning rust stains at the bottom of frig. Very easy repair! Very happy here!
