How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP3964635 / WH49X10042 Washer Agitator Coupler Kit

Local folks wanted $75 for a service call, plus parts, etc. I found a repair video on YouTube. Disassembled as shown. Called for the part to local folks, they didn’t have it in stock but could order for $60’ish but have no idea on the time for delivery. I searched the net and found it. That was Friday am. I upgraded shipping and had it on Monday for $20’ish! The only hiccup was FedEx was supposed to deliver on Sunday and I got it Monday, but no problem. 

I fixed by taking the washer apart... then I ordered all the parts from the appliancepartspros store and installed with no issues. 

I searched on line and found this site which addressed this issue via a number of other people with the same problem. It was suggested I try their "Washer Agitator Coupler Kit". It almost seemed to good to be true, but I ordered one. It came in a very timely manner, I installed it and that indeed did fix the problem. The only catch was getting my old agitator out of the machine was not as easy as it could have been, but I did get it out with the help of one of the other people's suggestion. Next getting the old coupler off was very difficult. That had no reflection on Appliance Parts Pros, it was just really stuck. Once I did get the old one off it was a little hard to get the new coupler to seat all the way down. I had to pound it down with a hammer and block of wood to get it in place, but it did finally seat like it should and is working just great. 

G/E washer agitator spun freely & wasn't engaging to the transmission shaft. I found the agitator coupling (plastic) "stripped out" where it engages the transmission shaft. Very common failure point on these machines after 10+ years. Cleaned splines on transmission shaft w/a wire brush & installed new coupling & retaining bolt (7/16") Working properly again. 20 minute repair. G/E dryer was starting when ever timer was set to time or cycle dry with out engaging the start switch. Using a meter, I found the start switch was "closed" all the time constantly sending power to the timer vs. momentarily sending a power signal as it should. (If this condition of timer turning the dryer on is not rectified it'll lead to the timer wearing out prematurely, as it is not designed to deal with on/off current duties & arcing of the contacts involved) Replaced momentary start switch & now dryer only turns on when start switch is engaged as it should. 10 minute repair. 

I watched your videos on how to fix the problem. I bought an agitator coupler kit because the attachment screw was stripped on the old coupler. I also upgraded the agitator unit. It works great now. 

We ordered an agitator cup. So far it's working! Almost bought a new washer. No need now. 

I yanked out the big agitator plastic thing with my hands (not a belt or rope), which was much easier than the videos made it seem, and I easily replaced the washer agitator coupler. One of the easiest repairs I've ever done, and I'm not really a fix-it guy.

Very easy fix. Been living these videos from appliances parts pros. I got a washer dryer and stove for very cheap second hand. Turned out none of them worked. After troubleshooting the issues I ordered parts from appliance parts pros I watched the simple to-the-point repair videos. I was able to fix the issues in minutes. At the end after the purchase of the appliances and parts. I got the 3 appliances working for less than $50 total per appliance altogether. With the main trouble, components changed these appliances will run great for me for years. I’m sure of it!
