How to Troubleshoot & Replace Lg AP5071745 / MCK49049101 Lint Screen Housing

Replaced two parts that hold filter screen and replaced filter. Filter now fits properly and all is well. Took about 30 minutes. 

Removed lint screen, Unscrewed sensor, and then unscrewed screw next to sensor in middle of cover, unscrewed two top screws on guide and removed. Flap and back piece came out with the cover and I unsnapped it from the cover. Vacuumed hole where cover was (lots of lint). Snapped cover into flap/back piece and slid back into unit, reattached sensor put back in both screws (sensor and middle screw). Put back in two top screws, replaced lint screen. Done - easy, only tricky part is when you put the assembled unit back into its hole you need to make sure wires to sensor are in right position, and then it takes a little effort to push screws into the metal wall of the dryer so they catch and re-thread. 

Change the 3 parts and every thing is working great. Fast and great service. Thank You 

My clothes were getting caught on the cracked lint cover and filter and tearing. I am a single mom and didn't want to pay a repairman to come out. With suggestions offered on this website ordered all three parts because the configuration of the lint filter had changed. Glad I did change it because when I removed the old setup, there were tons of lint that had accumulated. Definite fire hazard. But the new mechanism fits nicely and not too hard to install. Works like a charm now. Lint screen fits snuggly and no more snagging clothes 

After numerous attempts to get the filter set down tighter, regular vacuuming of lint buildup below the assembly, I researched the problem. Imagine that, it’s a known problem in the design. Although LG will not stand behind it, all the parts were available here. I simply replaced the filter and assembly pieces. Very simple fix. Phillips #2 screwdriver and a shop vac just to get it cleaned out well before reassembling. 

Watched Appliance Parts Pros videos for each part, removed the parts, vacuumed it out real well, and then replaced Lint Filter Cover, Filter Guide, and Lint Filter with Appliance Parts Pros parts. The videos they have explaining how to replace parts was a huge help! All went well and no more clothes getting ruined. 

All parts replaced,about 1/2 hour to 45 minutes total time. Took a few minutes to figure out how it all went together. 

Our LG dryer came with our new home and it turns out the folks before us must have "repaired" it but left out some of the screws so the whole filter unit was off and eventually broke in a spectacular way. I'm all for DIY repairs, if they aren't too complicated. So, I got on the web, researched whether I could repair this myself and came to the conclusion the answer was yes. I searched the web for replacement parts and Applicance Parts Pros came up. The website was organized (it even suggested combination of parts that usually go together which was helpful) and their prices were competitive. The website said they delivereed quickly and that was true. In my case, I ordered on the web late Thursday night and it arrived on our doorstep (regular shipping) Saturday morning. The repair was pretty straight forward and now we are back up and running! 

I took the old parts out, cleaned the lint that was built up underneath and put the new one in.
