How to Troubleshoot & Replace Lg AP5071745 / MCK49049101 Lint Screen Housing

I purchased all of the vent parts; Lint Filter, Lint Screen Housing, Lint Filter Guide, and Lint Filter Dust Cover. It was easy to remove the existing parts, and the most difficult part of installing the new parts was getting the screws to line-up through the Lint Screen Housing and into the metal frame of the dryer. I only needed a phillips head screwdriver and was done in less than 15 minutes. I did run into some disappointment. Other people mentioned that the new Lint Screen Housing wasn't 100% compatible with the original Lint Filter. The new Lint Screen Housing does not have space for the side tabs on the Lint Filter to seat down within the Lint Screen Housing. Noting this, I added the Lint Filter to my order hoping to avoid cutting off the side tabs of the Lint Filter. Unfortunately, the new Lint Screen Housing and the new Lint Filter are not exact matches and the side tabs on the Lint Filter have nowhere to go. I cut the tabs off my my origninal Lint Filter, and now hope to return the new Lint Filter I purchased to complete this repair. 

Repair man on washer issue told us how to fix this issue. I ordered parts. Upon taking out the part I discovered the dryer needed a good cleaning and removal of lint. The new part isn’t an exact fit but cleaning the old part thoroughly and reinstalling it worked great. I’m returning a couple of the parts and returning the others. Wouldn’t have had the confidence to do the project without the information and video provided. Had to return a part and the process was quick and easy. 

Reviewed the video on repairs and it went very well. Ordered the complete package and found the issue was the old housing had lint in the housing causing the lint filter to stand proud. Recommend reviewing prior to ordering the entire components. My housing was damaged so it needed replacing. Good product. 

Replaced the dryer lint screen holder. 

Change the Lint screen housing and put a new lint filter. Sadly the manufacturer had made a change and so I had to buy the lint filter guide also to fix my problem. 

Removed broken part (3 screws) Replaced with the new part. 

Just 6 screws. Removed and replaced. 

Ordered new housing. Fairly easy to remove old and replace. The two piece must be tightly put together or it won’t go in. The filter now sits properly in housing. 

I had tried the quick fix of replacing the old lint filter. but it quickly failed because the assembly had become worn and brittle. I ordered the entire assembly and it only took a few minutes to swap out the old for new. Works perfectly now. 

The filter on the right side would not fully seat. It was snagging clothes, especially items with straps. When I removed the parts, there was a bunch of lint packed into the bottom of the lint filter cover. I am not sure if you can look down in there and see if yours is packed in. I did not look first. I saw there was a redesign and figured there was a reoccurring problem. Lots of posts were reporting the issue and successful resolution with the redesigned parts. You might try to clean first but you may need to pull the bits apart to get down in there. BTW the new bits are slightly different so they must have been altered to solve a design issue. Change out only involves a few screws. I did have a very tough time getting the holes to line up and properly reinsert the screws. I used an awl to align the holes. That helped a bunch. So far so good. Screen seems to seat better. We will see long term if it helps.
