How to Troubleshoot & Replace Lg AP5675953 / AEQ73110205 Icemaker (14 Cube)

This is the second time I have replaced this part in my LG refrigerator. What happens is over time sediment collects in the trays and the ice cubes do not release when the ice maker attempts to twist the tray. This time, part of the mounting bracket on the right side actually broke. The replacement was pretty straightforward, and it is back to working great again. I would like to know if there is any way I can increase the lifespan of this icemaker by cleaning that sediment somehow, or maybe replacing the refrigerator filter more often, or use a different brand filter to reduce or eliminate the deposits in the tray? 

I purchased a new icemaker but it still was only making a few cubes per cycle. I checked the water line to the icemaker and there was water coming out but didn't measure the pressure. When accessing the line for cold water/ice from the fridge, the water flow was very low. The saddle valve for the water line was leaking after I closed it to check the water flow from the line where connects to the solenoid valve and had to replace it. I measured the water pressure this time after replacing the saddle valve and it was 40 psig (which is the minimum pressure required). The icemaker is now dispensing full trays of ice and there is a much stronger flow of water dispensing. 

Ordered the repair part and installed myself. 

Watched your video and ordered a new one Came in two days easy fix took about 30 minutes. 

Your online video was spot-on with the replacement procedure to follow. The entire operation took about 30 minutes. 

Cut the incorrect plug off and soldered connectors onto old plug. Not to complicated. Just a PITA. 

I replaced ice maker unit. The DIY video on this website was very thorough and easy to follow. It gave me confidence that I could do it. I was able to complete it in 10 minutes. 

Replaced ice maker unit with OEM part from AppliancePartsPros.com, after having to return two incorrect parts sent from another supplier Had to exchange one plug from the old unit, as the new unit’s plug did not match up to my refrigerator. The YouTube video from AppliancePartsPros.com was EXCELLENT help. All in all - an easy repair. 

I got on the chat line with a very helpful AppliancePartsPros.com and received various test suggestions and troubleshooting videos. The final decision was that I needed to replace the ice maker. I then ordered the ice maker from APP and proceeded to install it. My problem was still not solved! I again removed the ice maker unit and focused on the water supply itself. Even though I had previously inspected the water line input to the ice maker, I decided to try and clean this port. It turned out that there must have been a small piece of calcium in the end of the water line port causing the water to spray outside of the ice maker while refilling. Though I probably did not need the new ice maker, I decided to keep it anyway since the refrigerator was a few years old. In no way do I fault APP! They have bailed me out many times on various appliance issues.
