Christopher D Dayton , TX July 18, 2014 Appliance: LG Refrigerator LSC27931ST Ice flap would not close after dispensing ice It was fixed by replacing the solenoid assembly behind the ice dispenser. Using a butter knife I pried off the plastic cover (the place where you put your cup to catch the ice) which revealed the solenoid. After unplugging the wires to the solenoid, I removed the two bottom screws and loosened the top screw. The solenoid then pulled out easily. I replaced the solenoid and re-tightened all of the screws and put the wires back in place. I had to push the plastic cover fairly hard to get it back into place, but it is pretty sturdy plastic. Shawn M Fort Worth , TX July 16, 2014 Door flapper for ice was not closing I ended up looking up the part and replacing the solenoid assembly. I verified that I had the right pat by contacting appliance pros directly. Once I received the part I removed the water ice enclosure and then I had access to the solenoid which made for an easy replacement. I just had to be careful to pull the right areas so that I wouldn't break any tabs. Robert C Springfield , VA September 25, 2022 Appliance: Amana Gas Dryer LG1009W The flap that closes over the ice chute wasn’t closing completely. The warm air is drawn into the chute creating frost. I watched the video attached to the part schematic for the three parts that work the chute - there is a small motor/actuator and the flap itself (which includes the spring, so really didn’t need to order the spring additionally). The hardest part was getting the cover off - I put tape all around the outside of the edge on the refrigerator to avoid scratching it and then used pry tools I have for automotive repairs (pulling off trim and panels) and was able to get it out without a problem. Client saw all the mold behind it and wanted to clean it out - so account for 30 minutes for OCD clients to get out bleach and Q-tips to clean out the area behind the panel. Don’t need to disconnect power - but you do need to lock the ice maker/water as you have to depress the water switch to get the panel out around the water dispenser - and put a rag into the ice chute from the inside. Swapping out parts was easy - just don’t lose the two little screws that hold the flap on. Take a picture with your phone before you disassemble and then re-install as you un-installed. Getting the panel back on was a bit hard with the door handle in the way - be patient and push easy but firm. The hardest part was getting the panel off and waiting for the client to clean out behind the panel. Problem solved - not sure if it was the flap or the motor - but since I knew we were going to have it open, I replaced both to save a return trip/delay in repair for client. Stephen Q Whittier , CA March 31, 2020 Appliance: LG Refrigerator LRSC26923TT Ice chute door flap broken and solenoid sticking. I watched a short video on how to remove the front control panel, and the interior parts. My control panel trim was slightly different, but I follow the same procedure, as in the video, and it worked great. I took my time, and even doing so, the whole process took me about 25 minutes. I replaced the Ice chute door/flap, and the solenoid. My wife was ready to go out and buy a new 'fridge'. This saved me about 2K. Parts only cost about $75 bucks. I am very happy, and so is the Wife. Thanks again. Read More... Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 15-30 minutes Tools: Screwdrivers
