How to Troubleshoot & Replace Lg AP6027671 / 4434ER0002H Washer Tub Spider Assembly

After disassembly, discovered that the spider attached to the stainless steel tub was corroded and broken in 2 places. Bearings were in good shape but replaced them anyway while the machine was apart. Replaced 2 bearings, bearing seal, spider, and tub gasket. The repair video is excellent and was easy to follow. Some difficulty removing old bearings as significant hammering is required to get them out. The most difficult part was getting the door gasket back in, particularly the interior seal. The spring clamp is not easily reattached. As noted by others, during shock removal, they come apart and 2 rubber bands fall out. The bands need to be put back in the top 2 grooves of the white plastic and slide the metal portion over while holding them in place. 

Thanks to the extremely detailed videos that I found on the appliancepartspros.com site. It was easier than it would have been otherwise. I rebuilt our dryer a few years ago using the video and this vendor for parts. There were some complications as a result of the corrosion of the spider but the info made it possible to figure out the way to approach it. Thanks, Appliancepartspros.com 

The parts shipped quickly. The video was excellent. My washer was slightly different from the one in the video, but close enough to get the job done. This was an excellent video and if not for the video I probably would not have been able to do the job. I would definitely recommend Appliance Parts Pros if you decide to do your own maintenance. The most challenging part would be getting the old bearing out. Having experience changing out bearings definitely helped. 

I disassembled the washer to replace the spider assembly that holds the stainless steel drum. 

Whole washing machine needed taken apart. The video had a different control panel location but I worked through that. The washer tub spider did not come loose with a hammer, I need a large gear puller. Without the puller I believe the plastic tub would have broken from the hammer blows. Lots of force was needed to get the bearing out of the tub as well. The video appeared to make it much easier to remove the bearings than it actually was. 

Replaced bearings & shaft seal. Replaced tub seal. 

Replaced the bearings and the spider. The people that work at appliance parts pros are very helpful and even advised on some other parts that are normally changed out such as the gasket between the tub. I have used appliance parts pros in the past and will continue to use them. 

Replaced spindle, tub bearings, and seals. Watched the video which was great, but my unit was difficult to get to the spring on one side. I could have used an extra hand. Also, I recommend putting the weights on after the tub rubber seal. Its much easier the get it on the lip and put on the retainer without them in the way. 

This repair is very complicated. You have to take apart the entire machine to extract the drum. It took about two and one-half hours to take apart. The hardest part to remove is the front and rear bearings. They can be rusted in which makes extraction difficult. Once you get them out, the repair is easy but lengthy. Just put everything back in reverse order. Appliance parts pros doe's a great job with their videos. You have to have the right tools and the rest is easy. 

I used YouTube to give me instructions on steps for disassembly and was figuring I was gonna find a bad bearing but instead the Spider mount was broke at all three legs. Luckily it caused no damage to washer. When you go this far in depth with searching for the problem and the bearings are looking right at you go ahead and replace them. I do maintenance for a living so I know to do it right. New Spider mount, new bearings and seals and washer runs like a new one.
