How to Troubleshoot & Replace Lg AP4650823 / 6600W1K001C Switch

I ordered the latch board assembly and some interlock switches from AppliancePartsPros.com. It arrived in a very short time. I replaced the old parts and now my LG microwave runs like it did when it was new. 

Took it apart and ended up breaking the bracket that that three switches were mounted on. So I ordered the necessary parts to fix and it went fairly well as we live in the country so we learn how to do some of these things ourselves as it would have been cheaper to just replace the unit than to repair. Anyway, it is up and running, so one for me this time. 

Replaced broken parts. 

Thanks to the review by Dennis M (https://www.appliancepartspros.com/diy-story-fan-turntable-door-open-worked-fine-diy713729.html), I figured out the issue was likely to be one of the door switches. Ordered all 3, but turned out that I only needed to replace the bottom one. You need a special hexagonal screwdriver head to remove some of the screws on the exterior metal case so make sure that you have that before you begin (I ordered a screwdriver appliance repair kit for ~$14). Once all screws are out, remove the case by sliding it back (away from the front). Reached in and removed the 2 wires attached to the bottom switch. Again thanks to Dennis, I knew to press a small plastic catch under the switch with a small screwdriver which let the switch rotate down so it could be easily removed. Replaced the switch (you have to push quite hard for it to click properly in place - I used a screwdriver to assist. And that was it - problem solved in less than 10 minutes! My beloved microwave/pizza oven is now back in action and hopefully will continue to work for another 20 years! 

I repaired it by replacing the lower door switch and the micro switch just above the lower door switch. The top door switch wasn’t replaced. Total time to repair took about 45 minutes. 

Replaced upper door latch switch. It was obvious immediately after removing the cover that the red microswitch plunger wasn't returning when released. Didn't have to chase continuity anywhere. Surprising that a broken switch would lead to the behavior that it did, but a really easy and cheap repair! Ordered extra switches for the next time. AppliancePartsPros FTW again!

Last time, on a different microwave, we paid a serviceman $200+ to replace a door switch. This time we used the internet and a multi-meter to access and check the door switches. Only one was bad but replaced all three while we were there. Less than $15. 

If you don't have the ability to test the switches purchase all three switches. They are not that expensive and it will save you from a second order when the one switch you purchased didn't solve the problem. 

The belt was obvious. The microwave oven took some troubleshooting. Thanks to the schematic that was in a small envelope stuck to the frame I was able to check out all the electrical components. Found 2 bad door switches. Ordered them and replaced them. I saved a ton of money.
