Lane C Pleasant Garden , NC February 24, 2015 Appliance: LG Washer WM2688HNMA The washer sounded like a jet plane when it went through the spin cycle very loud noise I originally thought the washer had a bad bearing, but once I got it disassembled it the spider arms were broken. This required the replacement of the tub assembly. While replacing the tub I replaced all of the water bellows. The parts came quickly, the live chat and videos were very helpful. This washer has to be completely disassembled to replace the drum, so mark all the screw locations, tag and bag everything and take lots of pics. It was a very rewarding project and hundreds of dollars cheaper than a service call Read More... 14 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 1-2 hours Tools: Pliers, Screwdrivers, Socket Set
Matthew M Cedar Park , TX January 02, 2015 Appliance: LG Washer WM2487HRMA Washer drum wobbles due to broken spider Watched the video on AppliancePartsPros.com and took apart the washer. The spider was broken, but it was corroded so bad, I had to replace the inner drum assembly which contained the drum and spider. Put it back together and everything is working correctly. I could not have done it without the video on this site. The job was time consuming, but not really difficult. Lee H Tucson , AZ July 14, 2015 Bad bearings on 8 year old lg washing machine Replaced bearings and seals. Replaced inner tub assembly because three of the six bolts that attached the spider with spindle to the inner tub stripped out when trying to remove them as I wanted to replace the original spindle with the installation of new bearings and seal. My bet is these bolts were never intended to be removed after their initial installation. Total repair time was approximately 5 hours. Machine works like new. Leonel T Richmond Hill , GA January 25, 2016 Appliance: LG Washer WM2688HNMA Main bearings on tub went bad I found your video on the repair. I'm pretty handy and so I thought that this would be an involved but doable fix. The disassembly went well, the tub on my LG Tromm washing bearings were bad. Hiccups on the repair: 1. Your video should tell you to get the replacement gasket (huge O ring) that goes around the outer plastic tub as this is almost a must to change (prevent any leaks) and the part is less than 10 dollars... after all that work, this is a no brainer. 2.The spider assembly shaft was in really bad shape, to the point that if I were to have used it again, the bearing seal would have been damaged in a couple of days, so I ordered a replacement spider. My problems started when I could not remove the screws holding the side to the drum because the bolts were either red thread locked in or just rusted to the point of no return. In the end I had to order a new inner tub (complete with spider assembly. After those two bumps... I put everything back together and it's like I have a brand new washer. Thank you for the support, and the video's . The gentleman that you have on the video's is really good, calm voice and explains everything to get the job done. I gave the job 2 plus hours because of the delay in having the parts.. But if everything had fallen into place it would have taken about 2 hours to repair in total. Richard C Stonington , CT May 30, 2015 Spider broke on the tub machine inoperable Thought I was going to have to fork over $1500.00 plus for a new washer. Went on-line and found a terrific video that ApplianceParts put up on Youtube. After watching the video I felt confident enough in my mechanical ability to tackle the job. I would recommend that you get several small containers to hold the screws and bolts that you remove. Label these and you should not have any issue, Great to have your iPad next to you while you work things out. The video is very helpful. The machine is repaired and running fine. Total cost of parts was less than $200.00. The feeling of accomplishment is invaluable. Larry H Lambertville , NJ December 02, 2019 Appliance: Model LG WM2688HNW Very noisy on spin cycle suspected worn out bearings It's a long story. I suspected the bearings and ordered new ones along with a new seal and a tub gasket. The video was very helpful in providing the correct order to dismantle the washer. Upon disassembly (you have to take the entire washer apart) I found that the large bearing failed because the seal leaked. Worse than that, the shaft off of the spider was corroded and it would immediately ruin the new seal. So I immediately ordered a new spider unit. Then in trying to remove the spider from the tub, 5 out of 6 bolts spun...the threaded inserts in the tub arms were stripped in their plastic housings. I called back and ordered the tub assembly, canceling the spider. APP was very helpful in making sure I got the correct part overnight and credit for the spider. I re-assembled the washer and everything works beautifully, as smooth as a brand new one. It went perfectly for me, but it is not a job for those who aren't very mechanical. Read More... Gary R Monroe , NC September 23, 2019 Appliance: LG Washer WM2501HWA Bearing shot When I was shopping to see what parts may cost to repair my machine, I came across the videos to help novices such as myself repair my LG washing machine. I watched the video and at first felt intimidated by the fact that I had to completely break down the machine to do the repair. I watched it a second time and felt that I would be able to do it. I ordered parts and attempted the repair once parts arrived. After getting into the repair, Once I got to removing the spider from the back of the tub, one screw was frozen and there was nothing I could do that worked to free it up. As a result, I ended up damaging a baffle which is not available for sale. I had to buy a new tub which comes with spider and baffles. I had to return my spider. I completed the repair after replacing all 3 shocks, both bearings. tub seal, and a new tub. The machine is completely quite now and sounds and operates like a new one. My washer was built in 2007. I saved having to buy a new machine and hundreds in repairs. I would say that if you are even moderately handy and have a few basic tools, you can do this repair with no sweat. The only area that was a big problem in retrospect was trying to get the inside seal spring reinstalled. I had to get help with that. Read More...
