How to Troubleshoot & Replace Samsung AP5914786 / DA81-06013A Refrigerator Evaporator Fan Motor

I should’ve taken the time and done more research but I was without a fridge. I could have probably diagnosed the issue based on other people’s experiences. I just ended up calling Samsung to send out repair man. Our fridge just turned 5 in November 2023. We had two issues; the ice maker (like most Samsung owners) and the then cooling problem. Paid for service guy to tell me what was wrong. Quoted me $700 to fix both or $500 for just the fan. He told me it was the evaporator fan. Googled “how to fix evaporator fan” came across this site and they’re very easy to follow video! We replaced the fan ourselves. Didn’t do the ice maker. Took the time to thoroughly clean the interior, and defrosting the unit took a long time the back panel was frozen stuck! Swapping out the fan took no time. Now it’s working fine. Used a putty knife to pop off the back panel at the arrows. 

We looked on AppliancePartsPros.com website and were able to find what we thought was the problem. There was a video of the repair available, so we watched the video and ordered the part. The explanations were so easy to understand and the gentleman in the video explained all steps completely, accurately and simple. We received the part quickly and the repair took us only minutes!! Our Samsung refrigerator started making a terrible sound. I pulled the unit out and found that the air intake was clogged with dust. This created a domino effect and caused the upper ice maker to freeze up and ice to form around the fan. I vacuumed the back and sides of the refrigerator and defrosted the ice maker. The fan also defrosted and now is running smoothly and quietly. I did order a replacement fan, and I will keep it and replace it the next time it acts up. The bottom line is that if your refrigerator is in an enclosure, make sure you do your routine maintenance and clean and vacuum the dust out of the intake grill on a regular basis. 

Watch Youtube videos on possible problems. Determined the family fan was broken. Emailed a question to AppliancePartsPros.com.com that I couldn’t find addressed in the videos. My problem - Fan loud, freezing back of the upper part of the fridge, water in the fridge under the meat drawer leaking into the freezer, frost inside see freezer, ice only freezing large puddles inside the ice drawer, icing up under the freezer drawer in large puddles. Discovered my fan was frozen to coils in the upper portion of the fridge and the drain hole was frozen shut. They showed me how to take everything apart and get to the fan. A full day of deicing coils, deicing drain, and deicing freezer per videos. Ordered the evaporator fan, and received in two days. Put it all back together, so far so good. $75 fix by AppliancePartsPros.com plus me! Thank you!

I watched your video and I did it. 

My fan was probably ok, but since I had things torn apart I went ahead and replaced all three parts. It took longer to empty the fridge than it did to replace the parts. There was no wire splicing required as is shown in the videos. Seems the newer refrigerators have changed the design so that is no longer required. 

Found part, ordered, watched video to install, worked great!
