How to Troubleshoot & Replace Samsung AP6890119 / DC97-14849N Dryer Drum Assembly

Replace dryer drum. 

Ordered drum assembly and swapped out the damaged original. Easy, 10 minutes or so. 

This is the easiest thing ever, took about 20 minutes including the cleaning. 

Followed video from appliance parts pros, not one issue with procedures. I will use again if necessary. Plus delivered the next day with standard delivery 3-5 business days. Putting on the belt with the tensioner was the hardest part. 

Replacing it was pretty easy. Only needed a phillips screwdriver for disassembly. Spring loaded belt tensioner released ok and then slid the drum out and slid the new one in. 

I was able to quickly identify the part number to replace my drum on appliancepartspros.com and it arrived 2 days later. the link on the website to a installation video made the job even easier. 30 minutes to remove the old drum and install the new one. this is my second purchase from this company and I have been happy with both purchases. And there account support team was excellent.

Disassembly the dryer by open the top first, disconnect all the electrical connectors, after that the door, and then the front of the dryer, next is lose the belt tensioner and take both the belt and the drum out! Forget to mention: Drum arrived early then scheduled , in good condition, will buy from AppliancePartsPros again.

Prior to ordering a new replacement drum, I went to YOUTUBE and searched for "dryer drum replacement" and found vidoe related to the exact model I had.Watched the video and decided this was too easy to pay $$ for someone else to do. I ordered new dryer drum from APP online and it did take a few weeks to get here because Samsung had it on backorder. When it did come, I was impressed it was OEM from Samsung and of OEM quality and fit. My 16 y/o son and I tore the dryer down and replaced drum in about 1 hour. I did not tell him I had watched the video and he thought I was really something with only a philips head screw driver. I did not follow the advice of the person in the video to wear protective gloves, and sure as I knew it, I did get a nice cut on one hand from a sharp hidden piece of metal when I reached inside to put the belt back on the motor. This was a very basic repair, just required some dismantling of the dryer unit. If you have basic confidence and basic repair skills, you can DIY and save $200 or so by ordering from APP and handling the remove / replace yourself. Can't put a price on what my son learned by the experience. I actually took it apart and had him do all the re-assembly and it was a snap for him. I am sure he'll remember this for a long time and have confidence himself one day to take on little jobs like this.
