How to Troubleshoot & Replace Samsung AP5948649 / DA97-13415B Refrigerator Ice Maker Assembly

Our 6 year old Samsung 25 cu ft side by side's ice maker had been giving us problems for a long time. It would make a continuous "pop pop pop" noise when it couldn't eject the ice. Replaced the in door ice maker and it is perfect now. 20 minute job then press the blue test button to get it restarted. Very easy and the part was perfect. 

Replaced this part in 10 minutes. It only 4 screws to remove the ice maker unit; then 3 screws to remove the assembly. 

After looking on YouTube and ruling out possible causes like freezing, water outlet etc. I determined that the motor within the ice maker assembly had outlived its useful life. The video I watched on how to replace the ice maker assembly was done by AppliancePartsPros.com so I picked up the phone and ordered a new unit which arrived the next day. Simply followed the instructions and helpful hints from the video; from start to finish, maybe 10 minutes to replace...easy! Saved more than a couple of hundred bucks as well! 

I purchased a new one. 

Contacted AppliancePartsPros tech team for trouble shooting advice. Very professional response and test information supplied for elimination of potential causes enabled identification of Ice maker failure as most probable cause. Purchased replacement Ice Maker and it was delivered on time as promised. Replaced part and new Ice maker works fine. 

Ordered the appropriate part from AppliancePartsPros.com and replaced it. Required the removal of a total of 6 screws. The trick was to find the tab to release the assembly that hides the plug-in for the ice maker. Found that info on YouTube. 

Noticed my ice wasn’t being replenished, got an error code 26C. Did a lot of googling on this one. There’s a hairdryer trick, where you take off the cover and aim the heat at either end of the ice tray, and that got the crank moving to push the ice out. Water would refill the tray and freeze, but once again, it would not turn the crank and scoop the ice out. Hairdryer made it turn and scoop again, but that’s obviously not the long-term solution! I decided to replace the entire assembly, and that did the trick. We’ve gone 3 days straight of ice being made and dumped into the bucket. Very happy now!

Big fan of these guys!
