How to Troubleshoot & Replace Samsung AP4202690 / DC31-00054A Washer Drain Pump

Replaced the Drain Pump Assembly and it works. I have had to replace this part every two years but we use it a lot. The video helps to walk you through the process. 

I tried all the standard troubleshooting, including checking the filter for clogged and cleaning some drain holes. I noticed the washer sounded odd when it wouldn’t drain. The problem was intermittent. I opened up the washer using the AppliancePartsPros.com YouTube video which explains every step. I checked the voltage to the pump and verified 123V, so I went ahead and ordered a new pump. I used a tarp to perform the repair in my house, but I’d highly recommend taking the washer into the garage or outside. The smell from the water backing up in the drain valve was horrendous when I broke the seal and it drained onto the tarp. I gave everything a thorough cleaning and installed my new pump. Seems to work well now. Most of the repair time was cleaning. I initially was going to buy elsewhere but since the AppliancePartsPros video was so helpful, I decided to buy from here instead. 

My son had me order the part and he changed it for me. 

Took washer apart from front. Easily ordered replacement part on this site. Part number on side of item. Paid for fast shipping. Got part in 2 days due to Holidays days. Excellent experience in every respect.

My husband tried cleaning to improve drainage. Worked for two loads then happened again. Watched a couple videos on subject. Removed drain pump. Looked at schematics for our model and orders new part. Shipped overnight. The next day installed new part. Works great. I did it myself with the aid of a repair video online! It took me a bit of time and now I know how to do it! I am a 55 year old female and loved the project. 

Purchased a new water pump. Old one would overheat so wouldn't drain at spin cycle. Easy to replace pump, but messy with water coming out of washer and drain pipe. 

Replaced the drain pump. Remove the bottom trim (Philips head screws). The drain pump is mounted to the trim, so make sure the washer is oriented such that there is not a lot of stress on the pump (wires, inlet/outlet/drain hoses are attached). The part is the motor/impeller, so you reuse the housing. Three Philips screws hold the housing to the pump motor, and two of those mount to the holding bracket. Make sure to remember the orientation of the pump housing to the motor/impeller assembly. The housing slips off and on the motor casing. Single lock connector for power and pinch clips for all the hoses, so not an issue there. Biggest challenges are getting the hoses attached - pump basically has to be in position - I re-attached the pump to the black trim and mounted the hoses afterword - not exactly easy but I thought better than alternative. Also, the plastic trim helps maintain the shape of the steel washer exterior, so a little bit of a pain to squeeze the washer exterior to get it to line up.
