How to Troubleshoot & Replace Samsung AP4171999 / DA96-00020Q Evaporator Assembly

Checked the SAMSUNG Evaporator Assembly with an ohm meter found it was open..Ordered the heating coil assembly from Appliance Parts Pros, watched their video, and replaced the assembly. We have to wait for 3 to 4 weeks to see if this fixed the problem as it takes that long to ice up. I am sure it will be okay. 

Purchased evaporator assembly form Appliance Pros, removed heater assembly from evaporator on both refrigerator and the new assembly and installed new heater on to the evaporator in the refrigerator. 

I found this site and they had the best information and very helpful videos. After watching I was confident I could accomplish the task and I ordered the part. It came right away and I followed the instructions exactly. My Samsung rs255sl fridge is working perfect again. Purchased in 2003. Thanks guys! PS just ordered new bulbs and filter too! 

Diagnosed problem by testing for open heater element and while frozen, the defrost terminator, both tested open. (Infinity on meter). Ordered parts from Appliance Parts Pros. New heating element came with the evaporator coil and all sensors. Ice maker was head and tray w/ sensor. Removed old heater and sensors from new coil and old coil. Replaced with the new items. Removed old ice maker and replaced with new. I have been in the repair business for 30+ years and these repairs, which were done on my personal refrigerator, were accomplished within 2 hours. I would not recommend a novice try the heater replacement as it was a bit tedious. However, the ice maker replacement was an easy fix.

Replace defrost heater.. 

Follow the video, separate the heater and sensors from the evaporator assembly, and replace the broken heater with new heater along with new sensors. The video is really helps. It took me about 2 hours to finish the job. I think most people can do it with the video guide. 

Well after an appliance repair replaced four other parts in the freezer I looked on your site and troubleshot the problem. Just as you guys said it was an evaporative heater on the fridge side. I got my money back from repair man and ordered the part, which came the next day even with ground shipping. Took me all of 30 min. to replace, after I defrosted. Really was easy and worth doing myself.
