How to Troubleshoot & Replace Samsung AP4580056 / DE34-00330C Microwave Switch Membrane

Replaced membrane switch. Removed the membrain panel and control board. Take a picture of the board so you can reconnect the wires correctly. Peel the membrain from the face of the board assembly. Clean off all residue completely. CAREFULLY stick the membrain board to the board assembly. Alignment is key. There is NO second chance to align this board!! Replace board assembly with correct connections. 

Replaced the Switch Membrane (SMH9187B). 

I had tried to clean the contacts as seen on youtube videos, but that did not work for any length of time. I ordered the replacement keypad and switched it out. Very easy to do. The microwave now works fine. 

Replaced membrane pad. A previous post was spot on with excellent step by step details. Most time-consuming part of the project was removal of the adhesive residue before applying the new pad. Possibly a product like Goo-B-Gone would have done the job but did not have it and was anxious to get the part replaced once it arrived. Speaking of arrival, I was amazed to see the part delivered within 2 days of placing the order. Sure is great to have a working microwave. I made the mistake of ordering the part from another source and the wrong part was sent in the correctly marked box. Appliance Part Pro will be my go-to source for future parts. 

Microwave was 6 years old. Replaced the touchpad which is known to fail over time with use and steam coming up from the range. One tip. Use label and sticker remover available at Auto parts stores to remove residual adhesive remaining from the old touchpad. It doesn't melt or etch plastic like Goof Off or some other acetone based cleaner.All is working fine now.

I tried all the other fixes but it was clearly necessary to replace the keypad membrane. I had to pay close attention to make sure the new keypad was stuck down in the right place, but now the microwave works perfectly and looks good. The toughest part was reinstalling the trim piece.

The first time we got the "SE", took the control panel off to remove any dust and clean contact points. Re-installed control panel, but...the fix was only temporary - it didn't last very log before "SE" was back again, Purchased new circuit membrane. Had some trouble getting the old face plate & 2-layer membrane off, I mounted the control panel back on the microwave to get some leverage to pull the old parts down and off. The glue used by the factory is some really sticky stuff. Then had to use Goo-Gone to remove the glue residue to clean the surface to install the new parts. But got the job done and the microwave is now working well. NOTE: I purchased my part .from AppliancePartsPros.com. (but you may choose someone else) You'll need you part# to order anything. The project took longer than I expected, but only because I'm just 6 weeks out from a hip replacement, and I make notes and take pictures to put on my PC, for future reference.
