How to Troubleshoot & Replace Viking AP7180264 / 065650-000 Hot Surface Ignitor (Flat)

Replaced ignitors 

Igniter in oven was glowing but not getting hot enough to get the gas opened to start the oven. Replaced the igniter in about 5 minutes with only 2 screws and 2 electrical connections. 

Unplugged the old one, plugged the new one in, made an adjustment to the mounting bracket, put everything back together, and BOOM we had a griddle again. had to have saved hundreds in a service call. 

Hi folks: Yes it finally happened, my Viking range let me down. After a number of years the griddle stopped working. Not too much to tell about the repair though. After a bit of disassembly of the range top I was able to check for continuity through the griddle igniter and as I suspected it showed “open”. As you know these Viking units are expensive so I don’t like to skimp on parts. After a bit of Internet surfing I settled on Appliance Parts Pros for an OEM replacement part. They quickly supplied me with a PB040001 igniter for a fair price. Not much left to tell, 15 minutes after the part arrived the griddle was up and running again. Cheers, Brian 

Replaced one of the Hot Surface Igniters. 

Called store where I purchased range. My model number on the range was unknown and no longer could be read. Store had a parts department but they were unable to help me, even though I had part number from a past purchase. I called APP and talked with Mike. After a couple of minute discussion he encouraged me to purchase a new igniter from APP. Part arrived 3 days later (in time for July 4 party). Installed in minutes with a Phillips screw driver and needle nose pliers. 

Purchased new oven ignitors. 

Replaced both igniters. Took about 45 minutes from getting the screwdriver, wrench and wire stripper to showing off the working oven to my wife. Hardest part is getting a screwdriver into the tight spots to get the old igniters off. Wrench worked better. No need to remove door. I was surprised at how easy the repair went, as I had never worked on ovens before. And it saved me at least a couple hundred dollars doing it myself. I would not hesitate to do this again in a few years as igniters tend to wear out.
