How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6017818 / WPW10250667 Suspension Spring

After replacing subfloor, underlayment and floor the machine was still unbalanced possibly because it had been unbalanced for so long some springs had maybe stretched more than others. We replaced all the springs and wear pads, thoroughly vacuumed and cleaned all 4 feet and underneath the machine. Now the washing machine is working better than ever. 

Replaced all 4 drum/ suspension springs, that hook to tub support. Took less than 3 minutes 

Older Whirlpool so I changed 4 springs with the help of Mike Louthan and video. 1. Cabinet and control panel very easy to remove, 2. Spring removal and replacement takes a lot of muscle and do The clamp vice grips at the bracket end and not the tub. 3. Be sure to check the lower rear cabinet corners for secure mounting after replacing the cabinet. 

Watched your most excellent and step by step videos and then replaced 3 suspension springs and 1 counter balance spring.

I replaced the springs following the AppliancePartsPros.com videos. 

I replaced all four suspension springs. 3 short and one long. Curiously the old ones did not look bad. This is a very nice company with good how-to videos. 

After researching the possible problems on AppliancePartsPros.com, I used the videos that were available to figure out how to take the unit apart and what to check. I figured it might've been the motor coupling. Upon further investigation, I saw that the coupling was fine. As I was reassembling the coupling and drain pump, I discovered a rusted suspension spring and come off. As I was unable to reuse it, I ordered a new one. Long story short, had the spring in two days, installed it, and now my family of four can wash clothes again! $17.28 (with shipping) and model-specific videos! Thanks, AppliancePartsPros.com! Also, our laundry area is quite compact, so setting up and putting back was time-consuming, plus I gave the machine a cleaning while it was disassembled. 

I watched a YouTube video on how to fix an older model Kenmore washer. Then, I ordered the parts I needed and prayed it worked… It did work!!! I was so happy and proud that I was able to fix the washing machine myself. I couldn’t afford a new one. I’ve had the 70 series Kenmore washer for 33 years. Replaced the 3 horizontal suspension springs and the vertical hold-down spring. Although the banging sound likely came from the broken/missing drum suspension pads which were replaced as well.
