The Suspension Spring is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool washing machines. It is a critical component that helps to support and stabilize the outer tub during the wash and spin cycles, absorbing vibrations and minimizing excessive movement.

Symptoms of a bad suspension spring include:

  • Excessive shaking or vibrating during the wash or spin cycle
  • Loud banging or rattling noises from the washer
  • The washer moving or "walking" across the floor during operation
  • Leaks or potential damage to other components due to increased stress and movement

Causes of suspension spring failure can range from general wear and tear over time and exposure to high-speed spinning, to physical damage from overloading or unbalanced loads.

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Roger, For your unit you would not be able to do this step and the most likely cause for the unit to be shaking about would be the pads on the skate plate being bad. The part numbers that would be needed for this will be 285219 and 285744.

Roger, Yes, the "gurgling" noise after the tub has drained is "normal" The drain pump is "sucking" air through the tub and directing it through the water that remains in the hoses after the drain cycle. Under some circumstances, minor vibration can be "normal" as well. Check and make sure the washer is installed on a good, solid floor, the washer is level, and the front feet are as close to the base of the cabinet and locked in place, Then check the rear self levelling rear feet are level and locked in place. Open the lid, grasp the top of the agitator and move the tub in a circular motion and check that the tub moves freely and isn't "sticking" in any position. Once all is done and the washer is back in position. Place the timer in the final spin/drain cycle and start the machine, stand in front of the washer about 6 to 10 inches away from the front. If you can feel vibration in your feet, then the floor is a bit weak and causing the remainder of the vibration.

Mike, The pin that you are referencing is a shipping pin that was in it when the unit was first purchased. This pin is not required for moving and can discard it.

Monica for Model Number WTW 8600 YWO

I have had this Whirlpool Cabrio for about four years. A few days ago it started making a very loud noise while on the spin cycle. Also the code UL came up. I had a repairman come out and he stated that I would have to replace the entire tub to repair the bad bearings, but after reading different articles I am beginning to think mine can be repaired by just purchasing the bearing kit and replacing just that and not the entire tub! Also under the washer he showed me what appears to have been rust.

Marty, It depends on the model and the brand of washer, some models have as many as six(6) suspension springs. An Inglis/Whirlpool top load washer usually has three(3) suspension springs WP63907 and 1(one) counter balance spring WPW10250667 in the rear of the cabinet, to offset the weight of the drive motor.

Hello Michael. Lift the basket assembly and make sure it is centered. If so, it sounds like you will need to replace the suspension springs on the unit.
