How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6024203 / WPY54414 Dryer Belt Tension Pulley

Took apart, removed old belt, tensioner and drum rollers. Installed new parts, dryer works like new. 

Belt tension pulley seized and caused the dryer belt to wear out and break. It "squeeled" for a few months before eventually breaking. I did not investigate the noise, if I would have in the beginning, I would have only had to replace the pulley. Easy fix but you do need to take the washer pretty far apart to get at the belt and pulley. Hardest part to remove is a lock washer to replace the tension pulley which is done easily with lock washer pliers, otherwise it's all screws. Attaching the belt has to be done without looking, but still isn't difficult. 

Your video made the job much easier. The parts were perfect and arrived amazingly quickly (barely over 24 hours after my order.) The only issue I had was that the snap ring pliers I got for this job were much too big for the keepers on the idler and drum support pulleys. It wasn't fun but a pocket knife and thumbnails got the job done. I wish I had paid closer attention to the condition of the dryer belt before placing my original order, because as I was preparing to put everything back together I found a small but significant frayed spot, so the final assembly and testing are waiting for the arrival of my latest order. Removed the front of the Dryer and drum.removed the motor.Replaced the motor,tension puller,and belt.Clean the inside of the Dryer and all parts that i could get to 

I REPLACED THE BELT , DRUM SUPPORT ROLLERS AND THE BELT TENSION PULLY, IT JUST NEEDED THE PULLY BUT THE PARTS WERE CHEAP SO I DID ALL OF THEM 

Well, I went on you tube and there are multiple videos there. which helped with the disassembly. The squeeking noise is usually one of the drum rollers or the idler roller. I ordered all three rollers, the belt and the glides so when I disassembled it i could just replace them all. The dryer is around 10 years old and we have kids and really couldn't go without one if I took it apart and determined exactly which was the bad component then ordered and waited for parts. They are all wearable items anyway and the cost was not too much to replace them all..about $40. The parts came within two days and the job was pretty straight forward. One item i would make sure to have is retaining ring pliars to remove and reinstall the retaining rings. I polished up the shafts with some scotchbrite 3M pads and sanded the tips with some aluminimum oxide paper (plumbers sand paper) to help the rollers go on. Vacuumed out the unit as well got a ton of lint from the front section that goes to the hose. Last year I replaced the gas element (forget the name) on the dryer and that went great too. I know this is not what the question asked but, I do a lot of this sort of thing and I want the world to know look no further than appliancepartpros for your appliance parts. IT just get any easier or better !!! 

Replaced the 2 rollers and tension pulley. 

After taking the front cover off, I saw more of a problem than just the belt and the drum rollers. My vent line had a small hole in it and lint had covered the whole inside of the dryer. I unhooked the dryer, put it on a furniture dolly, took it outside and took a leaf blower to it for about 15 minutes after taking the drum out. After inspecting it to see what parts I needed, I started an online search for parts. After talking to a local Home Depot appliance representative, he told me to go online to this site. After finding the parts I needed to repair the dryer, I contacted a person at Appliance Parts Pros (Dani) who was a great help in the questions I had and ordering the parts I needed. Also watching a short video on how to repair it was a great help. I ordered these parts on Monday at about 10:00 A.M. and had the parts in my hand Tuesday by 1:00 P.M. Repairing it was a snap. It took me approximately 45 minutes to have it up and running again. I highly recommend this web site to any DYI people.
