How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6019708 / WPW10330804 Speed Governor

I replaced the Speed Control board and re-greased the internal gears. 

We had retired this machine we bought in the 70's and bought a Pro 600 to replace it. My wife makes large batches (4 loaves) of bread twice a month. The Pro 600 is a large enough bowl to do that. But when we tried a large batch of pasta dough, the "Pro" machine started smoking the motor windings. I knew I needed to do something, and I remembered the older K5SS mixer used to handle that. I figured that replacing the phase control, the governor, and the speed plate, would renew the machine for a while. Replaced all of the parts, and she runs like a new one. Your instructions were so clear that it only took about 1 hour, even though I lost the speed spring and had to fish it out of the mixer body. After resetting the speeds the mixer worked perfectly.

My Kitchenaid Classic Mixer no longer ran at the low speeds but only at the #4 setting and above. I replaced the Speed Control Plate and the Phase Control Board per the video with only one problem. When removing the spring end, the spring slipped from my needlenose plies and jumped out of the hole inside the mixer. Re-attaching the spring inside the mixer was an hour-plus-long chore since you can’t see the hole inside the mixer and the spring has to be turned up at a 90-degree angle to be inserted into the hole so that it can lock in the hole. I solved this by bending a #14 copper wire (which is easily bent) with a 90-degree gradual bend and inserting it inside the spring, then I was able to position the spring inside the mixer and insert the spring up into the hole, and carefully slide the copper wire out of the spring. This took many tries but was doable. Other than the spring ordeal (which was my fault), the repair was easy and the mixer now operates at all speeds. 

I replaced the speed plate control. At first the mixer didn't work with the new speed plate control. I saw one of the contacts was bent, it could have happened when I removed it from the package. Once I put bent the contact in place, the mixer worked fine. The videos about tuning the speeds were very helpful! I have owned this mixer for over 30 years and it never ran better after I replaced the speed control and tuned the speeds correctly. 

Replaced parts and it worked great. Easy fix. 

Followed your repair videos, which were excellent. Decided to replace three parts, given the age of the mixer. It has been fully resurrected now - it's much quieter, the low speed is wonderfully slow, overall the machine seems much happier. Thanks, guys!
