How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP5983729 / 661570V Whirlpool Drive Belt

After diagnosing the noise problem as a possible Idler pulley I opened up the back of the dryer and saw the pulley was not spinning and as a result, the belt was pretty chewed up. I watched the repair videos for both items on AppliancePartsPro and thought it was something I could handle. Parts arrived two days after order and I used the videos again to almost completely dismantle the dryer and install the new parts. Took about two hours for this beginner but it all went well. Cleaned out years of lint since I had it all apart, put it back together, and everything running smoothly. Removed bottom panel and inspected the inside of the dryer, found the broken belt and called the appliance parts pros. Ordered the new belt ( stocked item ) received new belt 2 days later, and thirty minutes later I’m drying my clothes !! Thanks for making my life easy I appreciate the professionalism !! 

Changed the belt and oiled. 

Watch the video that is with the belt when you purchase it. You do need to take apart the whole front and top of the dryer to loop the new belt around the drum so it does take some work. Installed the new belt, reassembled the dryer step by step and it is back on line. I got the parts I needed, the video on how to make the repair, everything I needed in one place with quick shipping and a great price. Very happy with everything that this site has to offer 

After watching several of the videos I figured the problem was the belt tensioner and the belt. Tried to get repair parts in three or four local area appliance shops. Most said they would do the repairs at rather high price, and most shops no longer sold individuals repair parts, what I considered high any how, and they did not stock the parts. If ordered the part from the appliance store the delivery time was longer than getting them from appliance parts pro. Figured I used their repair video for replacing the belt tension pulley and the belt, so I ordered from them. Got the parts at my home in two days. took me a couple hours to do the job. Probably could have done it faster if I had an easier access working area. and I did not want to rush the repairs. I must admit that I am mechanically inclined so this might have had something to do with the ease of the project. With the video I still think someone with little training could do the job fairly easy. 

I went on line and watched the video on to diy it. The video was great, I ordered the part on Sunday afternoon, parts here on Tuesday morning. There was 2 felt belts and one drive belt, I ordered all 3. The video made replacement very easy. I recommend ordering all three. The other belt was in bad shape and the drive belt had small cracks in it. It took 3 hrs because the glue had to dry 1 hour on each side 

Install parts, idler wheel unit and new belt. 

Replaced idler pulley and belt. Parts were delivered next day
