How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6014843 / WPW10074580 Inner Cap

Turned out to be a shredded coupler. $12 part saved me from expensive washer replacement. Fairly easy replacement once I figured out how to get the case open. Video was helpful but not exactly like my washer. Would have helped to be able to get behind the machine which, unfortunately, is difficult in my installation space. Replaced a few other inexpensive items while I was in there. Washer back to perfectly quiet operation. Big thanks to AppliancePartsPros for making stuff like this available and for providing video guides to help!

Fixed it with parts. 

Learned what my issue was by watching a repair video on AppliancePartsPros.com and then going and verifying that it was the problem on my unit. Ordered the parts with next day shipping which was still cheaper than paying a service pro. After the parts arrived, I mostly followed the steps of the video though I used slightly different tools. Was done in 5 minutes. Saved me a lot of money. 

Using you tube and replacing the dogs as they call them. It is an easy repair. 

Followed your video. Replaced bearings,seal, shaft. works like new. Very smooth and quiet again. Video was amazing. Nothing left out. 

I dismantled the top agitator and replaced all the parts that were associated with it. 

I noticed that the upper agitator was free spinning so I googled the problem and found out about agitator dogs. A further parts search brought me to AppliancePartsPros.com, where I was able to find the parts for my Whirlpool washer model and very helpful videos detailing the repair process. I received the parts within the delivery period chosen at checkout and the washer was repaired in about 1 hour ( I used the short cam kit and went slow putting the agitators back together, making sure that I had the cam inserted the proper side up). Success. The Washer is working properly and Ingrid ,my wife , now calls me Handyman Ed.

I ordered the gear dogs kit and the repair was about as easy as the video. However the assembly attaches to 3 plastic tabs not mentioned in the video. Once I figured that out and used a screw driver inserted through the drain holes to pry it off the tabs, it came right out and was finished and washing in 10 minutes or less.
