How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6023677 / WPW10662129 Run Capacitor

New capacitor and start device. 

With the clicking and the panel not lighting up, I opted to reduce repair time by throwing the kitchen sink at it: ordered the relay, start device, and electronic board. Parts arrived less than 24 hours after I ordered (AMAZING!). 10 minutes and it came back to life, asking for the program code (printed inside the door). Followed instructions to load the code and it's been working great since. Maybe it was just the board, but it's faster and easier for me to replace all three to make it like new. 

Replaced the main Cold Control in the refrigerator and the Defrost Thermostat in the freezer compartment. While I had the power off, I went ahead and replaced the compressor run capacitor, even though the old one still measured well within proper tolerance. The three parts were so reasonably priced, I figured I'd replace the three most likely culprits. After watching the very well-done videos on the website, I tackled the job and had all the parts replaced and the appliance back up and running in less than an hour. Everything seems to be running just fine now, with the temperatures in both the fridge and freezer exactly where they are supposed to be. I'll definitely be coming back to AppliancePartsPros.com for all my future needs. 

It appeared at first that the freezer had quit cooling and was defrosting. There was a clicking noise that sounded like it was tryjng to turn on and would do so for less than 10 seconds then would click back off. Then the fridge was noticably warmer in that section. I was able to diagnose the problem by searching out these symptoms (refrigerator/freezer not cooling; hearing clicking sounds) online and watching youtube videos. I ordered both a new capacitor and start relay because either could have been the issue though the videos said if you remove those pieces and shake them and hear a rattle then your start relay is almost surely the problem and needs replacing. I went ahead and ordered and replaced them both just in case it wasn't just the start relay. It took 2 days to receive the parts and took me all 5 minutes to remove and replace the parts. There is an instructional video on this website under the part needed that very simply walked me through how to replace it. Those videos are worth their weight in gold. It cost me $150 for both parts. This is the same cost it would have been to have a repairman come out to diagnose the issue. 

I was able to easily diagnose the likely causes by searching this website, which was a big help. I narrowed it down to either the Run Capacitor and/or the Start Device. Not wanting to do this twice (or pay twice for shipping) I ordered both and installed them at the same time. Still don't know which part failed, but my Whirlpool GB9FHDXWS04 refrigerator is working correctly now. The companion how-to videos for each part were especially helpful and relieved any apprehension I had about attempting to repair a major appliance. Honestly, I found compatible — but not OEM — replacement parts on Amazon for cheaper sourced from all over China, but I decided to buy them from Appliance Parts Pros because A) I instinctively trust the part quality, and B) I just appreciate this business model. I'm sure I'll bring my business back when the need arises. 

Replaced the compressor start relay and capacitor. Been working like new money every since!

Freezer and refrigerator stopped cooling. Replaced both parts in five minutes. All is back to normal. Very happy!
