Cleaned evaporator coils with brush and replaced digital control board........which did not solve the problem. The problem being the freezer was barely cold enough to freeze ice and the fridge was barely cool enough for food on the max settings! My thought was then turned to the start/run capacitor and relay for the compressor motor as the compressor was warm and no sound was heard as of running. I ordered the capacitor and relay and replaced them both and the fridge works like new again.....13 years old!
For those not familiar with capacitors and relays.......they definitely do have a life span and will fail over time. The installation was simple.......unplug power, remove the back bottom panel, unplug the old cap/relay pair and replace with the new one. It is taking me longer to type this than it took to do the repair.
The same thing applies to your air conditioning unit outside. Caps and relays do go bad over time. They are cheap to replace!.......and simple to install.
