How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6007635 / WP312967 Clamp

Knew it was the celanoid, they sent a new one and it works perfectly. 

I knew it was the blower wheel that was worn out, inner shaft space rounded and enlarged from years of wear. I ordered a new blower wheel which was a cinch to install. The front of the dryer is easily taken off by removing two screws on the lower front of the dryer. the top is held in place with two spring clips. The blower is located inside the left front blower housing. this is opened up by removing about six or eight sheet metal type screws and then taking off the retaining clip. It is also a good idea to wipe and vacuum the inside of the bottom of the dryer to remove the accumulated lint, toothpicks and dirt to ensure smooth operation. Note that when I ordered the wheel I also ordered a clamp and a retaining clip as recommended by the website. The clamp was not necessary as the wheel comes with a clamp but does not come with a retaining clip. The dryer sounds and works like a brand new machine. 

The problems was with the hub of the plastic blower wheel. The D happen hole for the motor shaft had worn out and let the blower wheel "free wheeled" on the motor shaft. Noise on start up was scary! Also replaced the long belt while it was apart and cleaned and greased all bearing. My wife thinks I'm SUPERHUSBAND now!. 

Initially tried lubing the tumbler rollers, idler pulley, and motor with short lived success. Finally replaced the motor. That was the fix. It's an easy project, especially after watching the repair video. It takes more time removing all the screws to take off the panels than it does to replace the motor. 

Replace both wheels and axles and blower wheel. 

First went with the obvious (?). Replaced belt and drum rollers. During reassembly noticed the blower wheel rattling while spinning the drum to align the belt. Replaced the blower wheel, now whisper quiet. 

Got all parts within a few days . had it fix by the weekend 

Unplugged the dryer. Took the front off the dryer. Two screws and it lifts out. Spun the drum by hand and noticed a minor sound coming from the blower wheel (fan). Checked the belt and pulled the drum out and checked the motor bearings. Everything seemed fine. The front dryer panel has a duct section where the lint gets blown up to the screen. This was plugged solid with lint. Completely cleaned it out and reassembled dryer. Ran dryer and it still had the original rumbling noise. Wrote down model number and ordered blower, clamp and snap ring. I also ordered a belt. Might as well replace it while I'm in there. Spent about an hour an a half diagnosing and a half hour installing parts. Ordered parts on Monday and I had them by Thursday. 

Bought new squirrel cage and replaced the broken one. 

New fan and clamp, took about 40 min.
