How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP5971447 / W10789434 Clamp

The pump inlet screen/filter was physically damaged and preventing the pump from turning. Ordered new filter assembly and reinstalled. This fixed the problem. AppliancePartsPros not only had a good price but I received it within 24hours of ordering it. I couldn't be happier. 

Watched instructional video, ordered parts, performed pump swap...worked perfectly. 

First I replaced the supply hose and fittings. That was just my first assumption. I even managed to have to replace the 20 year old shutoff valve as it was leaking through the valve. Once that proved fruitless, I ran the dishwasher empty out on the floor and observed. From there I grabbed the model number, came on the website, started looking at parts. The motor to pump seal looked like a likely candidate. The list of reasons why you would want to replace the seal included leaking water. Given that there were water stains on the counterbalance and there was no visible water dripping from the motor or pump I figured this was the most likely candidate. The actual replacement was fairly easy. The most difficult part was getting the rubber boot off. You definitely need to order at least one clamp. I replaced both to make life easier if I ever had to do it again. Working the boot off took most of the time. 

Laid the DW on its back. Removed the drive motor (leaking from shaft) and the water pump. Rubber elbow had a permanent clamp (removed with pliers/flathead sd) and that's why I purchased the extra clamp. Also, don't forget to purchase a water pump motor seal. The sump popped out easy although I had to get the new sump (seal) very wet and press hard in order to seal it. Anyhow, I still had to pull the sump from the bottom for it to seat with the locking tabs. Once the sump seated, I installed the pump motor with extra clamp and new seal (you have the wiggle the pump motor to set in the motor hanger grommet-little tough). Then, installed the drive motor ( don't forget to add a little grease on the shaft tip) and all the electrical plugs. No leaks! 

Water was not circulating, so I replaced the filter and it's now working well. The old filter was completely shredded not sure what caused it, but the new one did the trick. 

Replaced the sump housing, circulation pump seal and water supply diverter.

The motor's grinder blade was visibly broken and the machine made droning noise and stopped cleaning well. The website helped me diagnose the problem and directed me to the right motor for my Maytag. I had a huge hiccup when I hadn't ordered a hose clamp to replace the factory hose clamp during reassembly. The video mentions you'll need one but somehow I thought local hardware would have it - they didn't. But instructions were terrific and after a two-day delay, it's all back together and working properly. 

Replaced the sump and new diverter motor. 

Changed the Sump seal.
