How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6016813 / WPW10196393 Damper Control Assembly

Replaced it with a new assembly. A easy change out. 

Went to website, entered make and model number, looked for same problem listing, identified that damper control was most likely problem. Reviewed the repair video, ordered the part. Had to empty the top 2 shelves and remove them to access the damper. Followed the video, replaced the part, reinstalled everything. Works correctly now. Thank you APP. 

They had the part I needed for an older Kenmore refrigerator. The part fit perfectly, I now have a quiet refrigerator! 

Replaced the Damper Control even if you're all thumbs it's easy peasy. To remove the ice maker I put a little olive oil on the plastic and it slid right out. 

For the refrigerator over-cooling issue, I replaced the control circuit board, no luck (by the way, AppliancePartsPros parts forums did not suggest this part, this was my own $500 idea that didn't work). Next, I replaced the refrigerator thermistor per the AppliancePartsPros forum, no luck. Finally, I replaced the damper control, also per the AppliancePartsPros forum and that fixed it! If you have this issue, I'd suggest looking at the damper control first. It's easy, just pull the little slotted cover off the center back of the refrigerator (where the cold air comes out of) and look at the damper control door. Mine was stuck open even with the refrigerator at 29 degrees. I reached in and pushed on it and it closed. If I would have replaced the damper control first, I would have saved $600. For the controls not working issue, a new keyboard control part fixed that. Super easy fix as well. Thank you AppliancePartsPros! I isolated the noise to be coming from the damper control inside the refrigerator. I matched the part from my owner's manual to the replacement part at AppliancePartsPros. It was an exact match. The replacement took no more than 15 minutes to changeover. 

First I unplugged the unit. I used a screwdriver to pry the damper cover insert off and then removed the two screws from the larger cover. I then just pulled the piece of foam off. If you unclip one of the upper clips then you can pull the damper out and disconnect the cable assembly. Then you just plug the new cable in and slide it back in. You can easily test it by leaving the door open and letting the damper open up. 

Unplugged refrigerator and replaced Damper control, very easy repair. 

Replaced power vent on back wall inside the refrigerator. 

Unable to get a new refrigerator due to COVID, found a nice counter-depth used model but after purchased noticed it was not holding temperature and the damper control had been damaged. Installation of the Thermistor and Damper Control assembly was extremely straightforward and now the refrigerator is working flawlessly.
