How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP3103517 / 4318165 Refrigerator Door Closer Cam Kit

Used the kit I ordered. All works well. Refrigerator is 20yrs old. 

I installed a Whirlpool door hinge cam kit from Appliance Parts Pros. I watched the O/L video available on the same website and the job went exactly as the short procedure video showed. Remove the lower vent shield, prop the door up as high as it will go, remove both lower hinges on the one door and replace both upper and lower cams, reassemble and you are done. door works like new. 20 year old fridge. 

I ordered parts from AppliancePartsPros.com. The parts arrived before the shipping info came in. Simple fix pulled shelving from the fridge door, installed parts. Added a bit of grease, reassembled and it was done. WORKS GREAT NOW. THE DOOR SHUTS ON ITS OWN. 

The video at appliancepartspros.com was very helpful. Wood block trick was great so that door does not have to be removed, but make sure you have another human to hold the door in position on top of the wood block. The video only shows replacing the upper cam. As others have shared, definitely replace the upper AND lower cams (both live in the bottom door hinge)! That fixed the door. 

I removed all of the items and shelves from the door. Unscrewed the hinge from the top with a Nut Driver. Then I took the door off the bottom hinge. I laid it on the floor. I removed the auto-close bracket from both the door and the hinge on the fridge and replaced them from items in the kit. I put the door back on the hinge and reattached the hinge and brackets at the top of the door. 

Replaced the door cams located on the bottom hinge.

What a kit! 

Braced the door up with two pieces of wood and removed the lower door hinges. One hinge fastened is attached up into the lower door and the other is attached to the cabinet. The door requires partial removal of the doorstop so it can be rotated out of the way. The new replacement closer kit has plenty of spare parts no instructions. There is a video but key information is not given. The plastic replacement hinge parts have an oblong hole where the screws secure the pieces. Placement off the parts requires leaving the parts loosely attached until the proper mounting position is obtained. Then the assembly needs to be Thacker apart so the screws can be secured so both parts are in alignment. There are two friction pads, one for door, that must be installed on the lower cabinet bracket to assist with keeping the lower door closer from rotating when the door is fully opened. 

I watched the video you had on the website and followed the instructions. On a scale of 1 being easiest and 10 being hardest. I'd give it a 3.
