How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP3094183 / 279570 Dryer Door Latch Kit

The repair was easy and only took about 15 minutes. 

Popped it in after rooming the screws and watch video. 

Replaced high-temp thermostat. Older dryer so I replaced both thermostats and the heating element, the push-to-start switch and the door latch. New thermostat had spade connector so I had to replace one wire end. I could not find specific information about the temperature setting for the cycling thermostat so I went with the “out of the bag setting” which is working OK. 

I realized the door on the dryer wasn't staying latched and that it was taking longer for the clothes to dry. In the hole where the latch should have been, there was nothing. The latch had broken and fallen into the door. A quick Google brought name to AppliancePartsPros.com I found the part I needed and a helpful video explaining how to replace the broken latch. Awesome! I got it fixed in under 15 minutes and it's back to drying clothes properly. Just be careful when you take off the door. Mine is spring loaded and when I took out the second screw, the hinge mechanism sprang shut. Startling! You might need a second set of hands when you re-attach the door to the spring-loaded hinge. 

I followed the videos you provided. They were very helpful and exactly correct. The repairs went much faster than anticipated. The parts were exact Whirlpool matches. This is not the first time I have used your site and definitely won't be the last! 

I first pulled off the old upper and lower male latch pieces with a pair of needle nose pliers. Then used the same pliers to installed the new ones. Next I took the drier door off by removing the five screws that hold the door on. I then laid the door down and removed 4 screws that hold both sides of the door together. With the inside of the door exposed I used the needle nose pliers to remove the upper and lower female latches and replace with the new ones. Screwed the door back together and put the door back on the drier. Fixed the problem. 

Replaced all rollers. 

I found the model # of my Maytag dryer and ordered a new door latch. My item arrived very quickly and I replaced the old latch with the new one. Very simple fix. Loosen up a few screws and the job was done 

Determined that it was the rear and front rollers should be replaced (4) and also purchased a new pully that the belt rides on before it wraps around the drum. Determined that the belt had come off the drive motor and the motor safety swith was not being engaged, thus the reason why the start button was not starting the dryer. So i replaced the tensioner pully (1) and (4) rollers, just to be safe and using the same belt (no ware) shown, and put the dryer back together and it started right up. My wife thought she had a new dryer, works great again. 

I've been wedging a sock in the edge of the door for 5 years to keep the door closed and avoid the dryer from turning off. Otherwise the close would hit the door from inside and shut it off. I bought a replacement latch the week for $6 installed in 10 seconds and it works great. Thank you Appliance Parts Pro
