How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP4242494 / LA-1044 Dryer Heating Element Kit

First replaced the heating element. Tried the dryer, and it still did not heat. Then replaced the high-limit thermostat, and that fixed the problem. In retrospect, I wish I would have purchased the Dryer Thermostat Kit LA-1053 / AP4242472, which is a cheaper way to purchase the high-limit thermostat. 

Replaced the drive belt for the third time in two years so I decided to try and get the OEM part so it will last longer. The parts that I ordered arrived the next day with normal service which was great and the belt appears to be of higher quality. The backing on the belt seems stronger. Since I had to replace the belt, I decided to order the heating element as the dryer hasn't been heating as well. After a reasonably easy install, it's working like new again. It's always a good chance to clean out all of the accumulated lint too. 

We replaced the Heating Element Assembly. 

Looked at the website for Maytag dryers and customers with similar problems said it was the Thermistor and Heating Element that needed replacing. Found the items on AppliancePartsPros.com. I ordered and in two days the parts arrived and were installed!! 

Ordered the Heating Element Kit and installed it. 

Lift top cover. Visual check, broken heat coil. New one ordered & installed. Problem solved. My wife is happy because the dryer heats and so am I because I saved the price of a service call, the parts markup, and labor to install charge.
