How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP4242494 / LA-1044 Dryer Heating Element Kit

Watched YouTube how to. Purchased the kit. Made the repair. It went really well. 

Replaced the parts myself. Simple and easy repair. 

This particular dryer, a Magic Chef, has the heating element and thermostat right under the top so they are fairly easy to get to and take out and replace. The parts from Appliance Parts Pros were Whirlpool is OEM, so they matched perfectly. I did drop a bit down into the dryer but used the old "magnetize the screwdriver" routine and was able to retrieve it. We fired up the dryer and it now drys loads of heavy wet towels in one session instead of the previous two or three. All and all for once one of my repair jobs went beautifully. Also - great price on the parts.

This is a quick one! Take your time, use your phone to take pictures of the arrangement and connections of components before you start pulling things out, clean out excess lint around the filter and going into the ductwork while you have the dryer apart, and wear mechanics gloves or the like to protect against sheet metal inside the dryer if need be. Good luck! 

Replaced heater element. 

Replace the heater exchange. 

Found a do it yourself video on YOUTUBE for the exact model, Ordered parts from AppliancePartsPros and in less than 1/2 hour, had the dryer up and running. 

Installed a heating element kit. The parts were oem [maytag] not china 

My son and I watched several videos online using a multi meter to test the dryer and found out the heating element was cracked. We also found too much lint blocking air flow near the lint trap when we took the dryer door off. We bought extra fuses just in case, as well as the element. It was a bit tricky to unscrew because the screw was partially under the metal housing, but we got it in, and the dryer works very well- I think cleaning out all the lint is really important too.
