How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6010036 / WP61004881 Ice Bucket Housing

Unscrewed the motor from the enclosure. Removed one screw holding the enclosure to the refrigerator. Put in the new enclosure and attached the motor to the enclosure. Pretty straight forward and simple. Note: the blade on the motor that turns the ice auger must first be removed from the motor before you can attach the motor to the enclosure. The blade screws off the motor but you must use some sort of tool (screwdriver) to keep the motor shaft from turning. Once the motor is attched to the enclosure then screw the blade back on. Total time no more than 30 minutes. 

I read the fix it stories from this web site. I can't really improve on the articles except the easiest way to removing the ice prong that turns the ice maker is definitely reverse threads. Having a pair of needle nose vice grips is a must. I purchased one for 12 dollars at Home Depot, and it was the key to holding the shaft while turning the prong in a clockwise direction. The electrical motor must be disconnected by pulling the plug from the power source. The entire job took about 45 minutes.
