How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6024194 / WPY313538 Heater Element (240V)

Wasn't sure parts were still available, a second time. Repaired first time 2000. Only thing to break "heat element"! Not really much to a dryer "HDE808" model. Part# listed DE808. Who knew? Covid 19 Derecho washer n dryer fail. What's next? 70 yr old has still got this. Thank You, Thank God! Second project using "Appliance Parts Pros" quick service, right parts. DIY sure source for economy, OEM parts. 

Researched the problem and put in a new heating coil in. 

Ordered heating element, and one replacement insulator with clip. The old insulator had arched and was no good no more. At first stringing the new element in, I thought it was to short, but you will need to work it a bit to get it to fit properly, I did measure it to the old element before installing, and they were same length. You will not need and they say do not stretch the element, Just work it a bit til it fits. Never realized a clothes dryer is literally a blast furnace. 

My daughter purchased a mid-50's era home and along with it,, came aging appliances. My son removed the heating cone from the dryer for me. I took the cone to my work bench and removed old broken heating element and replaced with new. Also changed the thermostat since it was 15 yrs old and it was right there WHY not.. I'm 81 yrs old but have 45 yrs experience in electrical assembly experience. It was no problem following the instructions I had gotten from your help center. Took around 3 hrs. to complete the job. Lots of rest periods during that time.. Redoing the element took the most time as you must be careful not to put stress by pulling it to tight, but making it fit from pole to pole. This is the second time I've change the heating element on this particular dryer. It was less time 15yrs. ago. 

Replaced heater element.

I replaced the internal heating element within the can for the dryer. The dryer now runs like it is brand new. I am glad that this particular part is in stock. It saved me a bunch of money. Make sure you mount and reattach thermo sensor and wiring to the heating element can first, before mounting and securing heating element can ducting to the housing. It will be easier putting everything back together in that order. 

Bought a new element and had running in 40 minutes 

First I check the continuity of the thermal fuse found it to be good. Then I checked the continuity of the high temp fuse and found out to be good. Then I checked the continuity of the heating element and it was bad. Then I physically looked at the heating element and found it to be in pieces. I looked to order a new heating element and found there were 2 of them to choose from a 208 volt and the 220 volt.I read that the 220 Volt was for the United States an ordered it. in replacing it it seemed like it was at least 6 inches too short but after working it around slowly I got it to fit. it was the problem and it works fine.
