How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6007826 / WP31940001 Oven Bake Igniter

Using helpful advice and instruction from your website, I removed the failed ignitor and gently replaced it with a new one. 

Replaced oven igniter 

Checked parts-pro video to confirm my diagnostic mine was much simpler took out shelves, burner cover 1 nut from air foil, i guess that is the name, pulled out bottom drawer, removed 2 screws on cover plate, disconnected plug in and reversed order to complete the job. it took longer to vacuum all the dog hair up from under the stove. the stove is an Amana first edition circa 1998 and still works like the first day we got it. i wish my bride was like that 

I did a visual inspection of the igniter. It glowed but did not ignite the gas. I did some research online and found the Appliance Parts Pros website. Here I found out that the igniter must get white hot to allow the gas valve to open. I also found a video of how to replace the igniter, a complete parts drawing, and the part for my oven at Appliance Parts Pro. I ordered the part, received it in a few days, and completed the repair without a problem. The oven works fine now. 

Replaced it 

Removed old unit and replaced with new unit. 

Replaced the oven/bake igniter. Access to the plug on the igniter required removing the drawer on the bottom of the stove. The plug was located behind a panel in the back of the drawer space held in place by two phillip head screws. It took more time to locate the plug (5 minutes) than to change out the igniter! Allowing for some over due cleaning under the stove, the whole thing took about a half hour. 

Installed the new igniter 

Unplugging the bad part through a small port in back of stove was not easy. Installing the new part also resulted in several small bloody cuts on my fingers from working in small jagged sheet metal port. Finally had to use a lot of force to get the new part plugged in. Altogether not too bad of an experience, and the stove works like new. 

I researched the problem online. Both the oven and broiler would not heat up. Everything pointed to the need for new igniters. They were two different parts. The AppliancePartsPros.com helped me with the purchase of the part I needed. The repair was easy. Less than 1 hour.
