How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6012427 / WP8283288 Door Switch

Replaced door switch, thermal fuse was ok. Checked continuity and it was fine. Door switch had failed when I checked continuity across the two legs, on and off. 

Replaced the door switch., 

Replaced the switch myself, with help from wife. We followed the video instructions on YouTube. It was very helpful and no real problems. Saved us hundreds of dollars for overcharged repair work. Very positive experience. 

Replaced the door open/close sensor button. 

Easy install. Fixed in 10 minutes flat. Part came two days early. 

Purchased the fusible link and the door switch. Turned out being the door switch was worn. 

The door switch was the culprit. When the drum light stays on all the time with the door closed and the unit will not start, I suspected the door switch was bad. The switch can be changed by not taking the dryer apart. I know that now. Took the top off, access the switch harness, unplug the cable, remove switch from front, test switch, ( a form C), replace switch with new, and reassemble. Problem solved. The electric schematic is in the panel below the door. Good to know! 

Performed the diagnostic tests found in the owners manual. Determined the problem was the door switch. Found your YouTube video on how to replace the switch which was very good. 

The door switch and the thermal fuse were relatively easy to change out.
